Apple Says Wordpress No Longer Has to Implement In-App Purchases, Issue Now “Resolved”

Yesterday WordPress said Apple was holding back its iOS updates because it wanted the company to implement in-app purchases for its Wordpress.com plans.

The situation looked like another tense situation between Apple and its developers, such as its ongoing saga with Epic Games. WordPress said Apple was giving it one month to add an in-app purchase option for its web plans because they were accessible within the iOS app.

Now according to Bloomberg, Apple says it has “resolved” its issue with WordPress.

“We believe the issue with the WordPress app has been resolved,” said Apple in a statement to Bloomberg. “Since the developer removed the display of their service payment options from the app, it is now a free stand-alone app and does not have to offer in-app purchases. We have informed the developer and apologize for any confusion that we have caused.”

Apple says WordPress had submitted an update where it would have allowed people to purchase plans outside of the App Store. The app used to show paid plans but there was no way to buy them directly. This update has been changed to no longer advertise Wordpress.com plans.

Epic Games broke Apple’s App Store rules after it released an update to allow customers to make in-app purchases, while avoiding the company’s 30% fee to Apple. Epic Games ended up suing Apple, but yesterday the iPhone maker fired back saying the gaming company has previously asked for a special deal.
