Apple’s iOS 7 Teams Said to Be Scrambling to Meet WWDC 2013 Deadline

According to a report from AllThingsD, Apple’s iOS 7 team is in a crunch to meet WWDC 2013 deadlines for the next operating system and has added more engineers to the project. The scenario is said to be similar to the original iPhone/OS X Leopard scenario according to a source:

Sources who declined to be named because they are forbidden to talk publicly about Apple’s plans tell AllThingsD that the company has been “borrowing” engineers from the OS X 10.9 team as part of an effort to double down on iOS 7. “Yes, yes — it’s essentially a repeat of the iPhone/Leopard scenario,” one source said, referring to Apple’s 2007 decision to pull engineers from OS X 10.5 to work on iPhone. “Not as much of a fire drill, though. It should ship on time.”

Daring Fireball’s John Gruber first noted Apple was pulling OS X engineers over to iOS teams to help out with iOS 7.

John Paczkowski says sources also seem to corroborate earlier reports iOS 7 will come with a flat design, reported earlier by Mark Gurman from 9to5Mac:

“Put it this way,” said one source who’s been briefed on iOS. “You know Game Center’s green felt craps table? Well, goodbye Circus Circus.”

With former iOS chief Scott Forstall out of the equation, his favourable skeuomorphic design is set to head out the window according to current and former Apple employees, with one citing “Sounds like a much-needed ‘deForstallization.”

Earlier today, a Bloomberg report said iOS 7 could possibly be delayed due to the operating system’s overhaul.

WWDC 2013 tickets sold out in well under two minutes and is set to take place from June 10-14.

Update: Jim Dalrymple from The Loop on this story from AllThingsD says a “yep” to iOS 7 shipping on time.
