If you’re a frequent moviegoer, you may want to start redeeming your banked up Cineplex Scene Points, as some major changes are coming to the program starting April 17, 2019.
According to Cineplex in an email to members, it will now require more points to redeem a free movie starting in April, as just one of the changes.
Currently, you earn 100 points for every movie ticket purchased and one free ticket is earned after 1000 points. Starting on April 17, that changes to 125 points per ticket and 1250 points for a free movie ticket. For those with a huge points balance right now, you will require more points to redeem a free ticket.
You can check out the changes outlined in the chart below:
Another change coming is the removal of offering 20 bonus points for purchasing movies online.
As for the concession, the new changes mean you’ll now ear 5 points for every $1 spent, instead of 10 points. But getting combos (Combo 1-4; Outtakes Meals) will now earn “double bonus points”, so you can “so treat yourself and earn even more,” explains Cineplex.
Not all is bad, however, as it will now take only 1250 points to redeem a 3D movie ticket, instead of 1500.
According to Scene’s FAQ, “If you still get a free movie for every 10 that you see, why is SCENE making this change?”, here’s their explanation:
These adjustments are being made to the number of SCENE points you earn and redeem at the movies to better reflect the value of points across all of the rewards that SCENE offers, including the rewards you can get at over 800 restaurant locations and The Rec Room. For example, this change means that you will be able to redeem 1,000 points for $10 off at our restaurant partners, 1,000 points for $10 off at the Rec Room, and 1,250 points for a free General Admission or 3D movie ticket. As always, you will continue to earn a free movie for every 10 that you see. Plus, there are other ways to earn more points to get the rewards you love even faster.
For new members, the changes to these Scene Points won’t affect you that badly, but for existing members with thousands of points accumulated, it means they won’t be worth as much.
