Free Google Meet Video Chats Now Available on iOS, Android and the Web

Google Meet has officially rolled out for everybody, now offering free premium video calling for up to 100 people, available for iOS, Android and the web.

After making an announcement earlier this month, Google Meet is now ready to take on Zoom, offering easy screen sharing, scheduling, AI-powered real-time captions, low-light mode and an expanded tile layout.

Google explains, “we’ve re-engineered Google Meet, originally built for secure business meetings, to make it free and available to all.”

When Google made Meet’s advanced features complimentary for G Suite and G Suite Education users in March, the company saw usage increase 30x, while Meet hosted 3 billion minutes of video calls daily. In April, Google says nearly 3 million new users were joining Meet daily.

Google says starting today, “anyone with an email address can sign up and get started at meet.google.com, for free. And to make meetings even more accessible and helpful, in the coming days you’ll also be able to use Meet directly in Gmail.” The announcement comes after the rollout from two weeks ago has completed.

You will require a Google Account to use Meet (any email address can be used to create an account), which the company says is a security measure, either at meet.google.com or on iOS and Android.
