The design and overall build of Google’s upcoming Pixel Watch were leaked online earlier this week after a “testing model” was reportedly left behind at a restaurant in the U.S.

Now, 9to5Google has the inside scoop on its internals. According to the publication’s sources, the Pixel Watch will be powered by a 300mAh battery, and will also feature support for cellular connectivity.

Latest reports suggest Google is working on three different models of its long-rumoured Pixel-branded smartwatch, but how many of these models will offer cellular connectivity remains unknown.

To put the Pixel Watch’s speculated battery capacity into perspective, the Galaxy Watch4 from Samsung, which is also 40mm, has a 247mAh battery and is rated for 40 hours of battery life with Wear OS 3. In real-world testing, the Galaxy Watch4 typically nets you 24 hours of life, depending on usage.

Google’s smartwatch is slightly thicker than the Galaxy Watch4 and will feature a slightly larger battery. That said, the Pixel Watch is also expected to run Google’s new Wear OS 3, co-developed with Samsung, or a Pixel-exclusive refresh thereof.

Recently discovered references in code for one of Google’s apps indicated that the Pixel Watch will be powered by an Exynos chipset from Samsung, so Google may even end up using the same W920 chip that powers the Galaxy Watch4.

The rumour mill has no word yet on how (or how fast) the Pixel Watch will charge. Leading smartwatch makers Apple and Samsung both use a form of Qi charging for their devices, which seems reasonable to expect from Google as well.

The first Google-branded smartwatch, codenamed “Rohan,” is expected to be announced sometime this year, possibly at the Google I/O event in May. The tech giant is also expected to unveil its latest Pixel phone, the Pixel 6a, at the same event.
