iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue: ‘Ugly Glow’ in the Dark Complain Users

A number of iPhone 12 owners are noticing an “ugly glow” or a bright grey display in the dark when the device brightness is set to lower than 90-100%. It is not yet known how widespread the issue is, but a growing thread on Apple Support suggests the problem may be software related.

The above picture shows an iPhone 12 Pro (left) giving a ‘grey glow’ in the dark compared to an iPhone XS (right) where the screen is completely black just the way an OLED display should be.

Apparently, the iPhone 12’s OLED display is not turning off the black pixels in some dynamic scenes, although during static scenes, the black pixels seem to turn off after few seconds, as noted by an iPhone user.

Apple has not yet commented on the issue so we’ll need to wait for the next iOS update to see if it fixes the issue or not. In the meantime, check out the video below for a better idea and let us know if you’re experiencing the same problem with your iPhone 12.
