Official Apple iPhone XR Clear Case Coming — for $55 CAD

It looks like Apple is planning to sell a clear case for the iPhone XR once it launches later this month.

According to a new report from 9to5Mac, an observant Twitter user in Canada discovered a reference at the bottom of Apple’s Canadian iPhone XR press release, noting that “Apple-designed accessories for iPhone XR including a clear case will be available starting at $55 (CAD)” — a note that is conspicuously missing from the main U.S. release.

While Apple has been selling its own silicone and leather iPhone cases for years, this marks the first time the Cupertino company will release a clear case. As the iPhone XR comes in a number of different colors — black, white, yellow, blue, coral, and (PRODUCT)RED — it makes perfect sense that Apple want to sell a clear case to show off those beautiful new designs.

While no official images of the case have yet been shared, a tipster has sent 9to5Mac an image (above) of what they claim to be one of the forthcoming iPhone XR accessories. Notice that the bottom of the case is open which would allow users to easily perform the swipe up gesture.

The case is set to release at the same time as the iPhone XR at a price of $55 CAD.

Featuring an edge-to-edge display and a single rear camera, the iPhone XR is Apple’s lower-cost alternative to the iPhone XS. Including a new 6.1-inch LCD Liquid Retina display, Face ID and the same powerful A12 Bionic chip found with the new OLED models, iPhone XR is a powerful device that uses all but a few of Apple’s most desirable iPhone X/iPhone XS features.

The iPhone XR starts at $1,029 CAD for the 64GB model, and Apple says Canadians will be able to pre-order the device on Friday, October 19 at 12:01AM PDT/3:01AM EDT.
