Some iPhone XS Owners Await Charging Issue Fix in iOS 12

Some iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max owners are noticing an issue with their shiny new devices related to charging.

The problem? When plugging in the Lightning cable to charge with the device screen off, some units don’t charge. Charging only resumes when iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max screens are tapped to wake.

Canadian YouTube channel Unbox Therapy (you may remember Lewis and his claim to fame during “bendgate” and iPhone 6) demonstrates the issue in a video, while Apple’s Support Communities and Reddit users have also complained about the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max charging issue.

Some have complained how when they wake up in the morning, their iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max remain uncharged overnight. That’s a problem if you need your phone for work in the morning.

While the problem appears to be limited to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, that is not necessarily true, as some 9to5Mac readers have noticed the issue on older iPad and iPhone models, suggesting this problem is related to iOS 12, and would mean Apple should be able to easily fix this bug in a future software update.

With every new iPhone release, there’s always some sort of “_____-gate” drama, which is blown out of proportion. On top of this charging bug, some iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max users are annoyed at the front facing selfie camera and how it applies some sort of ‘beauty’ filter to portraits.

Are you having any Lightning port charging issues with your new iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max when the display is off? Ours is working fine, unlike the devices seen in the video below:
