Watch an iPhone XS Max Survive Nearly 5 Hours Submerged in Beer [VIDEO]

When Apple announced iPhone XS details at its special event last week, it highlighted the smartphone’s new IP68 certification, which meant it is able to withstand being submerged in up to two metres of water for at least 30 minutes.

Iphone xs max beer

Apple SVP Phil Schiller detailed on stage the team tested the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max under “chlorinated water, salt water, orange juice, tea, wine, even beer.”

Beer, you say? The iFixit team decided to put this to the test and set up a rig where an iPhone XS Max would get submerged in just over two metres of beer, with the timer running.

How did Apple’s iPhone XS Max fare? The phone lasted 4 hours and 54 minutes, before the camera was moved away from the test, therefore ending the experiment (oops).

iFixit did their tear down of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max yesterday, giving the devices a 6 out of 10 repair score (10 is easiest to repair).

Another Extreme Water Test Shows Superior Waterproofing in iPhone XS

If you want to take another look at waterproofing in Apple’s iPhone XS models, check out the video below by EverythingApplePro on YouTube. The iPhone XS Max was able to withstand being submerged in water beyond its IP68 certification.

The iPhone XS Max was dunked down 12 feet (3.65 metres) for 10 minutes and survived. A further test pushed the phone to the limit by being submerged at 40 feet for one minute—which the iPhone XS Max survived (and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 did not).

EverythingApplePro believes Apple is underrating the waterproofing capabilities of their new iPhone XS models:

It’s safe to say if your iPhone XS takes a drop in the pool (or even the lake temporarily), you should have no doubts whether it’ll survive or not.
