MasterCard to Launch Qkr with Masterpass in Canada This Year for Digital Payments

Mastercard has announced Qkr! with Masterpass is expanding to Canada in 2017, along with five other markets (Brazil, Ireland, Singapore, South Africa, United States). The service is the company’s mobile order-ahead and payment platform, which aims to eradicate traditional “open tabs” at bars, clubs and restaurants.

The company will partner with Oracle to launch the integration of the digital payment platform at retail and hospitality industries.

The Qkr! platform will allow users to pay for fees at places such as schools, gas stations, parking, sports arenas and also standalone retail like vending machines. The “Open Tab” feature will let customers at a bar open a tab without revealing a credit card or driver’s license.

Betty DeVita, chief commercial officer, Digital Payments and Labs, Mastercard, said in an emailed statement to iPhone in Canada, “Though grab-and-go retail is becoming increasingly popular with those on the move, consumers maintain high customer service expectations. Qkr! with Masterpass provides them with a frictionless retail experience – bringing together self-service, fast, seamless payments and card safety and security in new and unique ways.”

Users in a restaurant can just give a code to a server, to pay their bill quickly and easily. Check out the promo video below:
