Pokémon GO Apple Watch App “Coming Soon” According to Niantic

Back in September at Apple’s iPhone 7 event, the creators of Pokémon GO said an Apple Watch app would be coming before the end of 2016, and this afternoon, developers Niantic announced on Twitter the plans are still on track.

The tweet this afternoon said “Pokémon Go for Apple Watch is coming soon. Stay tuned.”

When will the Pokémon GO Apple Watch launch? There are two weeks left in 2016, so the update should most likely come before Apple’s iTunes Connect shuts down for the holidays, from December 23-27. Or, it could come last minute before the New Year.

The Apple Watch app for Pokémon GO would allow players to view on their wrist how far they need to walk to hatch eggs, plus fitness information and what else is needed to reach the next level. The app would notify players on their wrist with relevant notifications so they don’t need to stare at their phones 24/7.

The Pokémon GO hype has died down, but there are still some hardcore trainers out there enjoying the game. The recently launch of Super Mario Run for iPhone smashed Pokémon GO’s record of most downloads in a day, with the Nintendo title garnering a reported 2.85 million downloads in 24 hours, according to analytics firm, Apptopia.
