Spotify has Restored Support for Safari Web Player

After years of incompatibility, Spotify has restored support for its web player on Apple’s Safari browser.

Reported by MacRumors, Spotify users can now access Spotify’s web player on Safari. The Spotify support page on ‘How to use the web browser’ now lists Safari as a supported browser. Since 2017, Safari was deemed incompatible by Spotify.

The company never officially announced why Apple’s web browser stirred up issues. For two and a half years, Spotify’s web player was only accessible through Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Edge. Any user navigating to Spotify through Safari would receive a message stating: “This browser doesn’t support Spotify Web Player. Switch browsers or download Spotify for your desktop.”

Spotify’s support page notes that if users continue to experience issues an update to their browser may be required for the web player to function accordingly. Additional troubleshooting involves opening the web player through a private/incognito window. Plus, some shared/public networks may restrict access to the web player.

Spotify has recently announced a new extended trial period for new subscribers. The company is offering three months of its Premium subscription for free. For existing subscribers, three months of Premium is being discounted to $9.99.
