Update 1:
Apple CEO Tim Cook today sent the following email to all Apple employees:
Team,
I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.
Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing
human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. We are planning a celebration of Steve’s extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email re**************@***le.com.
No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.

A legend passes away. Sends shivers down my spine to think how a single man changed the world.
Agree. It’s a sad day.
Amazing man with an amazing vision that came to pass. Rip and thank you for your innovations.
I’m speechless too 🙁
All the best to his family.
Wow. Speechless and sad. What a year for tragic losses of leaders and innovators.
As a man I have shaken hands with and spoke with on many occasions, Steve you will never ever be forgotten.
The iPhone 4S was just announced yesterday too. RIP
I’m definitely buying an iPhone 4s. Not only is it time to upgrade my 3g, but it was the last iPhone before it’s founder passed.
Maybe iPhone ‘4S’ could mean iPhone ‘For Steve’…
That’s what I tweeted out earlier. It makes total sense. We all need one now. The Steve Jobs tribute edition iPhone.
Holy cow….wow…I don’t know what to say….
The world has lost it’s biggest genious. My condolences to his family.
Tough year. First Jack Layton and now Steve Jobs. A very sad day today. RIP Steve and thanks for all or your hard work.
I got a bad vibe when Steve stepped down from being CEO that it was going to be a repeat of how Jack stepped aside at the NDP before passing away. I’m sad to have been right.
A great loss and am very sadden by the news. I feel bad for mocking the iphone 4S and now will get one. Its hard to believe this is true. RIP Mr Jobs
Wow rip Steve thanks for everything!!
Thank You.
The Apple executives probably know about Steve’s conditions while giving their presentation yesterday…may be why Tim Cook didn’t mention about Jobs at all. He’s still so young..a sad day for everyone, especially his family.
I’m speechless.
Thoughts and prayers for his family…
Rest in peace ” Steve ” !!!
………………………..
It’s indeed a sad day. We have lost a great man with vision and drive to make what Apple is today. Thank you for the iPod, iPhone, and the iPad. Rest in peace Steve.
I’ve been watching CNN for the last half-hour, and man Steve Jobs has such a list of legendary accomplishments. So sad that he died young, but boy he sure lived.
Thank you, Steve. YOU made a TRUE difference, and it’ll never be forgotten!
RIP
There are no words…
Truly a sad day. We lost the greatest innovative visionary of our time. RIP Steve Job. Now let me go get my 4S.

The would will be in shock of this loss for quite some time.
I wrote an email and sent it to their condolence email.

Rest in peace steve
I have to admit, I felt a bit emotional when I heard the news today. It’s like losing that cool GrandFather you got to see once in a while.
At least he is at peace now. He changed the world, while fighting his own battles within. He will forever be a hero in my eyes, and a mentor in my life, as he’s always been.
Apple will not be same without Steve Jobs. RIP Steve, you changed the world.
I can’t get over it. It was so weird how he stepped down as CEO befor he died. How the iPhone 4S was released just yesterday… He was an amazing idol to me.
It’s a very sad day.
Good bye Steve and thank you for so much! I cherish my iPad and a year later I am still in awe of it.
RIP
🙁
Poor Steve. Rest in Peace.
You have to wonder if he was hanging on to see the launch of the 4S given the timing.
He will, no doubt, be missed.
🙁
RIP Steve Jobs
Thank you Steve for all you have given to the world! R.I.P.
iSad. 🙁
I wonder how Steve Wozniak is doing.

Living in such a complex world, where everything is entangled,
overly bugged and so not human, we were bound to crave for simplicity, beauty
and a sense of belonging. Steve offered us just that with his creations. From the start to the very end, this
genius has given himself so that our world would be a better place to live in. Thanks
to him, there is now hope. Thanks to him, Apple is much more than a simple
company that makes money at all costs. Thanks to him, Apple’s new meaning is now
for the betterment of the human
race.
Yours thruly,
Jean Lefebvre
Very sad news. The guy worked so hard up until his last month of life — inspiring. RIP Steve Jobs.
Can you imagine the crap phones we would be stuck with if this man never existed? The original iPhone was the biggest game changer. The likes which have not been duplicated.
my best friend’s mom makes $78 an hour on the computer. She has been out of job for 9 months but last month her check was $7587 just working on the computer for a few hours. Read about it here HardRich.com
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.
Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other
people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out
your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow
your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want
to become. Everything else is secondary.”
– Steve Jobs, 2005

Did anyone notice the empty “reserved” seat in the front row at the keynote?
Funny you mentioned–I did. Maybe it was for Steve.
It definitely was for him. TC and the gang knew it was inevitable.
On that note, look back at the iPad 2 keynote. Steve said goodbye to everyone. He also knew it would be his last.
RIP Steve Jobs – I wish I could put to words how your company has revolutionized the way I do my school work, connect with people, listen to music and ultimately everything I do #youwereatruegenius
