Clash of Clans Developer Triples Revenue to Whopping $1.7 Billion in 2014

Game developer Supercell has today posted an annual revenue of $1.7 billion from its three titles, Clash of Clans, Hay Day and Boom Beach for iOS and Android, tripling its revenue from previous year, The Guardian is reporting. The mobile games maker reported earnings (profits) before interest, tax and depreciation for 2014 of $562 million, fuelled by in-app purchases and advertising in its three smash hit game titles.

In 2013, Supercell had reported revenues of $567 million and profits of $264 million. The Finnish company’s chief executive Ilkka Paananen said: “We take great pride in Finland’s growing strength as one of the global leaders in mobile gaming. We’re very thankful to the millions of players around the world who play our games”.

“Yet unlike some of its peers, the company’s headcount has not swelled accordingly. It ended 2013 with 138 employees, but only added a dozen more last year. However, its rival company King ended the year with about 1,200 staff compared to Supercell’s 150”.

The company’s closest rival is King, the maker of Candy Crush Saga and other Saga mobile games, which reported $2.26 billion of revenues and profits of $950 million for 2014.
