Freedom Mobile is set to launch a new program called MyTab Rollover later this month, according to documentation seen by iPhone in Canada.
Shaw’s wireless carrier says the new program will let eligible customers rollover part of or their entire remaining MyTab balance to a new agreement—and get a new smartphone.
Freedom Mobile says MyTab Rollover will let customers acquire a new handset without needing to pay off the entire amount of their existing MyTab balance, beginning October 17, 2019.
The company says this new initiative will allow them to keep up with aggressive offers from competitors, while also ensure existing Freedom Mobile customers feel valued, by making it easier for them to upgrade.
Customers can qualify for the MyTab Rollover program if they are on a $50 or higher plan, and the Freedom Mobile activation portal indicates they are eligible.
The maximum MyTab rollover amount may vary depending on the device and rate plan and the amount permitted on a customer’s account. If a MyTab balance exceeds what can be rolled over, customers will need to pay the difference before they can sign a new 24-month term.
Freedom Mobile gives an example of a customer with a $330 remaining balance that wants to get a 64GB iPhone X on a $60 plan (the math is fun to digest):
In a nutshell, the new program will allow Freedom Mobile to extend a customer’s term with the company, by enticing them with a new phone upgrade and offering MyTab savings. The program details may change heading into the planned October 17, 2019 launch date. As we head into the busy holiday period with people looking to upgrade, this plan by Freedom Mobile looks to counter any deals the Big 3 may offer.
