Freedom Mobile Offers 3GB Bonus Data to Entice Prepaid Users to Jump to Postpaid

Freedom Mobile appears to have an offer right now targeting select prepaid customers, offering them bonus data to get them to switch to Pay After, or postpaid billing.

According to a RFD forum member, the Freedom Mobile offer was sent via text message and offers 3GB bonus data per month, for 24 months, if prepaid customers jump over to postpaid instead, which are more valuable for parent company Shaw, when it announces its quarterly earnings.

The text message offer reads as follows:

Freedom Mobile Offer: Great News! You are pre-approved for a bonus 3GB/ month for 24 months. To get your bonus 3GB, switch to Pay After (postpaid) monthly billing from your current Pre-Paid billing. Simply REPLY YES to redeem.

We’ll confirm your move to Pay After and apply the 3GB bonus. Don’t worry, you’ll keep your existing plan and there are no changes to your monthly commitments – just 3 extra GBs /month! Hurry, offer expires in 3 days. To unsubscribe from marketing messages https://frdm.mobi/login

The 3GB data bonus is added to a prepaid customer’s existing plan, but only for 24 months. The offer says it expires in three days.

This move by Freedom Mobile is similar to other offers we’ve seen in the past made by the ‘Big 3’, as part of efforts to get prepaid customers to change over to monthly postpaid plans.

Last month, Telus offered its prepaid customers on Public Mobile $120 in credits, if they switched over to their postpaid flanker brand, Koodo. Last December, Rogers and Chatr prepaid customers were offered special plans to switch to postpaid monthly as well.

Freedom Mobile recently added new U.S. daily roaming options at $5 per day, in what was another move seen as moving the carrier in line with pricing similar to incumbent wireless carriers.
