Aside from the availability of a new base Model 3, Tesla also slashed pricing on its Model S and Model X by $12,000 to $18,000 USD, with this discount also applying to Canada as well.
Here’s a breakdown of the approximate pricing changes below in Canadian dollars before incentives:
- Standard Range – $105,300 CAD: 225 km/h top speed; 435 km range; 4.4 sec 0-100 km/h
- Long Range – $110,700 CAD: 250 km/h top speed; 539 km range; 4.3 sec 0-100 km/h
- Ludicrous Performance – $132,000: (250 km/h top speed; 507 km range; 2.6 sec 0-100 km/h)
The base version is now called Standard Range (like the Model 3) and includes Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive, a premium interior and sound, just like the Long Range model.
The Ludicrous Performance model adds Ludicrous Acceleration, ventilated seats, enhanced interior styling and a carbon fibre spoiler.
Looking back to November 2018, these prices are much lower than before. The Model S 100D or now known as Long Range, started at $124,600 CAD. The Model S P100D, or now known as Ludicrous Performance started at $176,000 CAD.
- Long Range – $117,300 CAD: 250 km/h top speed; 475 km range; 4.9 sec 0-100 km/h
- Ludicrous Performance – $159,500 CAD: 250 km/h top speed; 465 km range; 3.0 sec 0-100 km/h
The Long Range Model X includes the premium option with dual motor all-wheel drive.
The Ludicrous Performance Model X includes Ludicrous Acceleration, dual motor all-wheel drive, premium interior and sound, to go with ventilated seats and enhanced interior styling.
Americans can configure their Model X to get a Performance version without Ludicrous, at $94,950 USD ($126,250 CAD), with 465 km range and 3.5 sec 0-100 km/h.
If we go back to December 2018, the Model X 100D equivalent of the ‘Long Range’ model started at $135,000 CAD. The ‘P100D’ Model X, or now known as Ludicrous Performance started at $189,500 CAD.
Tesla said they were able to make these price cuts across the Model 3, Model S and Model X by moving to an online-only sales model. They also will be “winding down many of our stores, with a small number of stores in high-traffic locations remaining as galleries, showcases and Tesla information centers.”
The bottom line, if you’re an early Tesla adopter, it’s not cheap, but you’re helping the company ramp up production and features for future buyers. All of these Tesla prices changes recently can make your head spin.
