BREAKING: Upgrade to Rogers iPhone 3G; Get $100 off
This just in:
We are getting unconfirmed reports that Rogers Wireless is discounting iPhone 3G’s up to $100 on Hardware Upgrades!

How to get it
If you are:
1.) A Rogers Wireless Customer with a VOICE plan of $30.01 or higher
2.) Are not using a “Smartphone” that was purchased through Rogers (so if you bought an iPhone 3G in USA and are using it on Rogers, you are okay)
3.) Do NOT have data plan of any kind purchased through Rogers
4.) Are eligible to upgrade (12 months since last upgrade or since you got your phone without any upgrades done)
If you meet the above four requirements (so just have a voice plan, no data, be eligible to upgrade, and have no “officially” purchased Rogers “Smartphone”), you may be eligible to get an iPhone 3G 8GB for $149.99 or an iPhone 3G 16GB for $249.99. (Prices only occur if your VOICE plan is more than $30.01. If it is less, than you pay $50 more. So 8GB = $199.99, 16GB = $299.99).
The Breakdown
On the invoice for an 8GB:
$249.99, less the $50 rebate for having a plan that is $30.01 or higher, then less an additional $50 for the promo = $149.99. Regular promo price is $199.99.
On the invoice for an 16GB:
$349.99, less the $50 rebate for having a plan that is $30.01 or higher, then less an additional $50 for the promo = $249.99. Regular promo price is $299.99.
You will have to renew your contract for 3 years but you do not have to add a data plan of any kind (monthly or yearly). Just a straight upgrade and renewal of your existing wireless voice plan.
Once again, this is NOT confirmed but there have been a few reports coming in. Also, we have no word on FIDO about this.
What do you think? Grab the iPhone 3G now at a discount…or wait for the possible new iPhone this summer?
Thoughts or experiences, post below!

Looks like they’re looking for a way to trick you into the current/old iPhone in anticipation of the new hotness coming this summer. I say save your hundred bucks and get iPhone 4G (or whatever it’ll be called).
Ya I agree. Wait and get a 4g.

So what is the word on 1 year equipment upgrade marks for those of us that purchased a 3G last year? Will it really be altered to satisfy Rogers evil plans and
how can they get away with changing a contract already signed???
Sneaky buggers! I’d say hold off and wait for the new iPhone to be released if ur interested. There’s always a catch somewhere… 😛
Wait for a different company to offer the iPhone!!!
Sounds like Mussolini came up with those HUP rules!
Signing a 3 year contract with Rogers is painful…unless it’s going to be for the next generation iPhone. 🙂
Thanks for the tip!
Hi Everyone, I just call Rogers, I can confirm that the price drop. However, giving that AT&T is saying new IPhone should be ready in late June, is hard to decide if we should get a 3G now with only 100 dollar cheaper for 3 year commitment.
Wait for 4G, your friends will be giving away their 3G iphone’s for free when 4G comes out, LOL 🙂
What if your friend has 2G phones ?
Does not matter about 2G iPhones because that is not an official “Rogers” iPhone
What do you mean by iPhone 4G? There isn’t any iPhone “4G” imminent. iPhone 3G stands for iPhone “3G cellular” which denotes that it works on UMTS and HSDPA. iPhone 3G doesn’t mean that it is a third generation iPhone. iPod uses that denotation unofficially but iPhone doesn’t. This “G” doesn’t equate to that “G”.
It is similar to a customer who complained to Apple that she got cheated because she bought an 8GB iPhone and all she got was “3”, “why” Apple asked. and she said well, the back of the phone said “3G”.
Cellular 4G would mean LTE or similar technology, which won’t be out any time soon, not to mention included in handsets like this.
Of course Apple can decide to confuse the whole world by calling their next phone “4G” if they insist, but I have yet to hear from Apple saying that yet.
Rogers’s LTE Network will be up by Fall 2009
