Telus/Bell iPhone Return & Exchange Policy

With the recent release of the iPhone on Telus and Bell, customers should be made aware of the exchanges and returns policies for the carriers. Let’s take a closer look.

Buyers’ Preference

Buyers Preference is a device exchange policy.

When you want to exchange your Telus/Bell device, you are not able to just simply walk in and exchange it. This is where the Buyers’ Preference policy comes in.

A customer within 15 days or 30 minutes of talk time on the device can return the device and swap it out for another device. For example, let’s say you did not like the color or just wanted a totally different device or something mechanically failed in the device, as long as you were within the 15 days/30 minutes rule, Buyers’ Preference is used.

If you exceed 15 days, you are stuck with your device without any chance of exchange. If you exceed 30 minutes of talk time on the device you are stuck with your device without any chance of exchange. In other words, whichever comes first, 15 days or 30 minutes of talk time on the device. If you do not exceed either, then you may continue with the exchange.

Buyers’ Remorse

Buyers Remorse is a return policy.

When you want to return your Telus/Bell device, you are not able to just simply walk in and return it. This is where the Buyers’ Remorse policy comes in.

A customer within 15 days or 30 minutes of talk time on the device can return the device and just cancel everything. For example, let’s say you did not like the device or did not want to be with Telus/Bell anymore, as long as you were within the 15 days/30 minutes rule, Buyers’ Remorse is used and your contract is ended with no cancellation fees of any kind. Telus/Bell obviously keep the device.

If you exceed 15 days, you are stuck with your device without any chance of return. If you exceed 30 minutes of talk time on the device you are stuck with your device without any chance of return. In other words, whichever comes first, 15 days or 30 minutes of talk time on the device. If you do not exceed either, then you may continue with the return.

Nice. But how much does this cost?

Wow, thank you for this information. This is something that was not communicated when I had bought the phone. I love my iphone, and I am not thinking about replacing it, but say if you have some other reason for returning or maybe wanted a 32 instead of a 16, this could be your ticket.

Is there documentation that states this? I've tried returning my iphone (to Telus) after only 3 days and they said I couldn't because that was Apple's policy and they couldn't do anything about it.

Apple doesn't dictate the return policy for Telus.
As long as you are under the minutes requirement, you're fine.

How important is the devices condition? What if there's a microscopic scratch? Or a small scratch? Or a large dent? Or the screen is smashed? Or the phone is destroyed? Do you know where they draw the line?

I juat signed up under 3 year contract on bell yesterday and had my number transferred to bell. I now realize I really don’t like my phone or my plan and I could have gotten what i wanted under Telus, Can i go back (2 days later haven’t even made a single call yet only some texts) and get all my money back and cancel everything no fees? And also to do this how can I get my number switched back to telus again. Do I go to Telus and get the number transferred to a new plan and phone under them before trying to cancel with bell or how would this work?

this is so NOT TRUE!!! I got a phone from Futureshop a week ago under a Telus contract. The phone can not get signal where I live so I tried to take it back. The agent from Futureshop keeps telling that they can’t take it back because I used it for more than 30 minutes. I called Telus and they said they have NO such policies. Went back to Futureshop the next day and have my Phone returned and contract canceled. As long as your within the 14-return policy your good its under the Law all retailers should follow that. Lesson learned never trust a Futureshop sales person.

I have the same issue. I ordered a IPHONE 4 through Telus web online. It came damage. 4 calls later I was told a replacement box and phone will be sent. I packed up the phone. I don’t have that return box yet. I got a bill, they’ve charged me an activation fee twice????
I call again and advise I want to follow the buyers remorse policy and return the phone and break the contract. I’m advised they’ll charge me 400 dollars. I said under the buyers remorse policy I am suppose to have 15 days to make a decision. The Telus rep from Calagary names Dezmond told me no so policy or law exisits
