Apple To Acquire LED Camera Flash Components?

According to an AppleInsider report, Apple is rumored to be shopping for LED camera flash components. This rumor comes as speculation increases about whether the next iPhone, due summer 2010, will include a better camera or even if the iPod Touch will receive a camera upgrade.

People familiar with Apple’s initiative claim the electronics maker is seeking allotments of LED camera flash components in the tens of millions for delivery during the 2010 calendar year, meaning future iPhones — and possibly the iPod touch — are the most likely recipients of those parts, due to their sales volume.

As many iPhone 3GS owners can admit, the 3.2MP camera is quite good. Although, photos do suffer in low-light environments, which is where a flash component may be useful. Comparable devices such as the recently debuted Google Nexus One include both a 5MP camera and LED flash.

It will be interesting to see whether or not LED flash components makes it to the iPhone, as Apple traditionally focuses on simplicity and minimization of design.

What do you think? iPhone 4G with flash? iPod Touch with camera and flash?

This year looks like it's gonna be a revolutionary one! I'd like to see 5mp camera with flash 🙂

I think only the LED flash + 5MP camera will be on the next Iphone and that's about it. You know Apple, they want to surprise their customers every year with a just one or two add-ons to their new Iphones.

If they are putting a flash on the iPhone, I'm curious to see how the design will change. I'm sure they won't just slap one on the back of the current iPhone. Maybe make the hole in the back a little bigger, and have flash be around the camera lens?

It would be the next logical step… although unless iPhone OS 4.0 is a major, major upgrade the iPhone is going to start looking old.

Or maybe have the Apple logo on the back, be the LED flash. That would be sweet.

Thats what I was thinking… The iPhone would not look like an iPhone with a big LED flash on the back of it. So the Apple logo would be an idea. I dunno if it would effect the pictures though being a distance away of the camera lens?

Flash is needed for sure. There's one thing that MUST improve if you add flash. It's the battery.

Right now iPhone is already lacking the battery power.

LED flash is one of I hope several advancements for this years model. And personally i have always been against using a flash in low-light for casual snapshots.
