[Updated] iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Tool Coming Soon, Exploit Found
With today’s release of iOS 4.1, jailbreakers have been warned repeatedly (to the point where if you update, it’s your own fault!) to NOT update via iTunes. This game of ‘cat and mouse’ has been ongoing since the iPhone was first released. Let the games continue, right?
For those who have invested in SBSettings, MyWi, My3G, and other tweaks, it’s hard to go back to a ‘stock’ iPhone. Hence, that’s why it’s worth the wait to hear from the Dev Team.
MuscleNerd Sends an Important “Discovery” Update via Twitter
It looks like an extremely important exploit has been discovered by @pod2g, as described by @musclenerd on twitter:
Crazy timing that @pod2g got latest exploit just as 4.1 went public (lots of work left…keep away from 4.1 for now!)
Looks like the iOS 4.1 jailbreak is going to come sooner than expected–well done guys!
Update 1– Sept.9/10: It looks like more progress has been made towards an iOS 4.1 jailbreak. Musclenerd tweeted the following yesterday:
That latest exploit from @pod2gconfirmed to work beyond iPhone4…also on at least iPad and yesterday’s iPod4G too 🙂
In a nutshell, this current exploit seems to work on all current iDevices and cannot be blocked unless Apple alters production and inserts new bootrom hardware into devices. Looks like this ‘cat and mouse’ game is heating up, once again!

Come on jailbreak… It will be nice for the proximity sensor to finally work
Dev Team Rocks! You guys are great!
Yeah, I just went ahead and tried to Jailbreak using the old method of using 4.0ipsw and it took away my phone icon and wouldnt allow me to make calls from the contacts app. Sneaky fuckers, it sucks, but ah well. Im restoring now so hopefully it works. Actually just got an error while typing this, looks like i might have fucked myself lol.
Ah well, i need an iPhone 4 anyways.
So does this mean we can upgrade to 4.1 for now (knowing we’ll lose the current JB) and then rejailbreak again once 4.1 JB comes out? I really want to try the new HDR feature.
Should hold off per the Dev team’s recommendations as it changes the baseband, for those looking to keep the unlock.
That falls under the “should have bought an unlocked phone!” category!!!!
I never have to worry about whether or not my phone will still work if i upgrade it! =)
Sure I might lose JB + apps but still usable phone!
Of course this also isnt an issue if you bought an iphone that is locked to your specific carrier…
The thing is, once I lose my jailbreak (even with an unlocked phone)–who
knows when the next one will come. It might be in November!
However, the HDR feature is getting really tempting for me…;)
I have a replacement iphone4 coming from Rogers. I’m sure it’ll come with 4.02 on it at least. Once there’s a jailbreak for it how do I get all my Rock Apps (My3G, MyWifi, etc..) back on my new phone without paying for them again? Do I just install Rock and login? I have this iPhone 4 setup perfectly but the internal speaker stopped working and Rogers is replacing it. Hope the Dev Teams comes through again. They are my heroes!
Yup. All purchases through Rock are stored in your account. Just re-download.
Yes, login to Rock, and under your rock license you can reinstall purchased apps
So, if you’re stuck on 4.0.2 (un-jailbroken) and you have a factory unlocked iphone4 (so you don’t care about the baseband version / ultrasn0w)… then there’s no reason NOT to upgrade to 4.1, right?
Thanks. Much appreciated.
Thanks Gary.
Ya, that’s why I’m tempted to upgrade and lose the JB and hope that a new one comes soon.
HDR is Nice. I can actually use the iPhone 4 to take pictures with drastic light changes. (ie. take a picture of a turned on LCD monitor to sell online) and not only can you see the picture on the screen clearly, but also everything around the screen, it’s not all dark and hard to see.
Depends if you want to use a jailbreak for other purposes. Personally unlocking is one of the main reasons, but it most certainly is not the only reason.
nope no reason. in fact you may benefit with certain baseband specific carrier settings updates that will come :).
I’m sure it’ll come soon but I know I’ll miss mine once I update.
Ever since I got my iPhone 4 with 4.02, I have been without SBSettings and other tools, but so far I have been managing. What I miss the most is my lockinfo. I don’t really use much of the winterboard stuff.
Wow, now that was fast! The day 4.1 comes out someone find a loophole, good timing!
Yes, I still want to jailbreak. But I can’t right now (on 4.0.2), and my understanding was that the new baseband would only prevent an unlock NOT a jailbreak. Is this true, or could the new baseband prevent the jailbreak as well?
redsn0wier beta for iOS 4.1 on iPhone 3G via OSX is out! re: dev team blog
I went through the same as THOMAS NORMAN. couldn’t restore either. now is hoping the Dev team will bother post a fix to this! please! cos i not gonna get an iphone 4 until i move to US next year…
You used jailbreakme.com on 4.1? Impossible. The patched the PDF exploit in 4.0.2. Just restore to fix your phone.
