[Update] redsn0w 0.9.6rc11 Download Released, Brings Boot Animations

Update 1: 0.9.6rc11 just released right after rc10.

redsn0w_0.9.6rc11: (rc11 makes the boot animation a bit more robust across all devices)

The iPhone Dev Team just released redsn0w 0.9.6rc10, an update for both Mac and Windows. This new version brings the ability for boot animations, and removes some settings. You can just run this latest version of redsn0w over your existing jailbreak (just unselect the ‘Install Cydia’ option). Follow our redsn0w tutorial here.

Update #1:

Those running redsn0w may have noticed we enabled too many Settings options in some versions of the jailbreak (for instance, what you want your side switch to do, even if you have no side switch because you’re not using an iPad). Release rc10 of redsn0w corrects that (you can just run it over your existing jailbreak…be sure to de-select Cydia to avoid package conflicts).

Along the way, we’ve also added the option to enable boot animations…these animations can be installed via Cydia, but be sure to select which animation to use via the Settings->Bootlogo setting after you’ve downloaded an animation (and again, you can just run rc10 over your existing jailbreak…be sure to de-select Cydia to avoid package conflicts).

(The boot animation we tested against was “Android Boot Logo”. It correctly installs all the dependencies needed to run the animation at each boot).

MuscleNerd just mentioned to me what the difference between rc10 and rc11 is:
“rc11 fixes a race condition dealing with how the partitions are mounted at boot time (it affected boot animation on some devices)”

Don’t know about the rest of you……but……boot animation doesn’t work on my iphone 3gs. I redownloaded Animate and some various boot animation packages from Cydia but nada. Any help/suggestions?

Just wondering that redsn0w is asking for the original firmware instead of the one generated by sn0wbreez, which preserved the baseband. will I loss the baseband after running redsn0w?

You lose your baseband if you update to iOS 4.3.1 in iTunes.

Use PwnageTool (Mac) or sn0wbreeze (PC) instead of redsn0w.

I think I am a bit confused. I already jailbroke my 4 and updated to 4.3.1 by sn0wbreeze and preserved the baseband. So there is no need to run redsn0w? I thought I saw a threat saying the redsn0w was to make some update to the already jailbroken 4.3.1

Gary……you might want to think about changing the header on this. Boot Animation isn’t working on my device (3gs) & apparently it’s an issue for alot of other iphone users. Read on a few different sites people aren’t having much success with the boot animation tweak. And for all those that are thinking about replying…….yes I downloaded most recent release of redsn0w and yes I made sure to uncheck install Cydia and check Allow boot animation. Oh & btw your Windows link above doesn’t work.
