AT&T: Apple Says No New iPhone In June Or July
Thus far, there are two generally accepted release time frames for the fifth generation iPhone. First, some people expect Apple to unveil the iPhone 5 at Apple’s traditional September iPod-focused event.
Second, some people expect Apple to make an announcement at WWDC 2011 this June, followed by a July release.
The former of the two choices would be a departure from the typical iPhone release cycle.
As it turns out, the September release may be true as MacRumors reports that an AT&T customer care representative has indicated that Apple has officially informed the carrier that there will be no new iPhone released this summer.
The source of the report noticed his eligibility date for a subsidized upgrade had been pushed back by five months. After contacting AT&T, an agent reportedly offered the following:
Apple has informed us that they do not plan to release the iPhone in the June to July timeframe, though there will be a newer version in the future. Unfortunately, we have not been given a release time for the new phone. We will release this information on our website when it is available to us.
When do you think the iPhone 5 will be released? Summer 2011, Fall 2011, 2012?

A customer care rep? Sorry, I’ll wait until Apple makes the announcement.
Brushed metal decal? That’s pretty cool.
At this point, I highly suspect the iPhone will be coming out in September. The iPhone 4 is still easily one of the best phones on the market still so I don’t think Apple is in any rush to get anything new out. When you look at previous iPhone releases like the 3G and 3GS, I think you could consider them a little bit “behind” of their competitors at the time. There was definitely more urgency with previous releases. Also I think it makes more sense for Apple to release the iPhone along side the iPod’s because they are so similar now…
3G a bit behind? That phone was revolutionary when it came out, maybe you’re a bit behind. apple is all about pushing technology limits and would have no reason to not release another phone soon.
Sorry, double post. Please remove.
Revolutionary for Canada maybe, but not States side. The original iPhone was a year old and Apple was getting a lot of flack for it not being 3G compatible. They were playing catchup with the rest of the market in that sense. (It’ll end up being the same with LTE I bet).
Regardless, I think we see a September release which I don’ have any problem with. The 4 is still an AMAZING piece of technology.

What kind of backing is that and where can I get it?
Argh… I’m still on my (stupidly slow, thanks apple) 3G, and I passed up on getting an iPhone 4 in late November because I’d be too far into the cycle of the iPhones and I’d miss 2 models. I’m hoping for an August release because that would suit me best. Then again, knowing Apple and what happened last year, since I’m going on vacation in September, they’ll probably release it in September.
I sincerely hope they’ll
release a new phone this year, or I’m likely jumping ship.
