Android Market To Exceed App Store Apps By August 2011?

According to a report by research2guidance, a German research group, the number of apps in the Android Market should surpass those in the App Store by August 2011.

Citing a recent example, in April approximately 28,000 apps were uploaded to the Android Market, where Apple accepted 11,000 apps into the App Store. This trend is reportedly common month after month.

The forecast indicates that the Android Market will achieve 425,000 total apps when it finally surpasses Apple’s App Store. However, R2G further reports that the popularity of the Android Market may be a negative factor for Android developers.

“On the contrary, the success of an app store is negatively correlated to the success of an average developer,” the firm writes. “All analysis on the early months of an app store including the Android Market shows that average download numbers decrease dramatically after the first months or even weeks after the launch of the store. The long tail gets longer and longer while the top 5% gets richer and richer.”

Recent TV ads have Apple using the number of apps in the App Store as an advantage of the iOS platform. If the Android Market becomes the largest application store, Apple may change its mobile application focus into a classic comparison of quality versus quantity.

Exactly right about quality. All I could think reading this article was how many of Androids 425,000 apps actually work?

it has ALWAYS been about quality to me and the reason i switched away from my android to iphone in the first place. quantity figures are just used as flashy headlines (by both apple and google).

Using some of my friends android devices is so frustrating. They just plain suck. It doesn’t matter how many apps they get, when 99% of them seem useless compared to the apps I use on my iPhone.

I own an android. 80% of the shitty apps on the android market app are useless crap that apple would normally filter out or reject. It has SOME good apps but easy 4X the amount of garbage then apples app store has. More apps maybe so, quality apps? Hell no.

Btw with my experience I’d say 15% of all apps I tried either crashed or wouldn’t start due to compatibility issues with my particular android, compatibility is a big issue right now.

“Shitty” apps are subjective. I also have an Andriod, and I’d say it’s more like 99% are junk apps. The app store is not too far behind with 98% junk.

Apple recently got more strict with accepting apps because there was already too many apps. Android app store exceeding Apple’s doesn’t mean a thing. If Apple accepted apps like Android, it wouldn’t even be close.

I am an apple lover, i hate when someone comes and says android is better… But if i start thinking what is the best for the iphone, is the Jailbreak!!!!
Thats because lots of developers are not approved on appstore so what do they do with those apps!? Cydia!!!!

Now thinking about, I hate the fact that apple doesnt support Flash, they are trying to monopoly the market, i am getting really disappointed with apples attitude in trying to guide the market their way…
So these days ive been thinking a lot about android… And payind attention to the android users that say they dont need jailbreak…

We should go around and force apple to be more flexible with the way they think… Because if they think they will be allways on top, they are more than wrong!!!

I might consider switching to android…

By the way ipad 2 is nothing without jailbreak
