Rogers customers can now check their iPhone 4S upgrade eligibility online. For those locked into contracts, all you have to do is fill out a form online and you will be notified of your status.

How to check your Rogers iPhone 4S upgrade eligibility:

1. Visit the Rogers iPhone 4S page, and click the ‘Get Started’ tab up top.

2. Click on ‘Check Eligibility’ for existing customers, and fill in your details.

Rogers will contact you regarding the eligibility of your iPhone 4S upgrade. Here’s the email I received based on the details I filled in. Note the $35 HUP ‘admin’ fee:

If you aren’t eligible, you can always order a factory unlocked unit from Apple. Let us know how this works for you below in the comments.

Thanks for the email Pat!

What a scam you could buy an unlocked contract free device from Apple for only $45 more.

Why is the early upgrade fee so expensive?
What’s the price breakdown of that?
Better buying it outright.

I think it’s $25 per month multiplied by the number of months left on the contract

good point Mike356, if I was even considering the upgrade at that price, the phone direct from Apple unlocked for $45 more is a better deal.

It’s $20 per month for the early upgrade fee for every month before your 30th month anniversary. This used to b 24 months until May when a quiet directive went out to the stores.

the new upgrade fee is stupid, every year apple had allowed customers who purchased the iphone the previous year to get the new activation prices, that is why there is an outrage.

In the fine print there’s a “$50 Hardware Upgrade Rebate credit” that will be applied to your invoice. This brings the prices back down to $159/$269/$379 but wtf. These guys are all about smoke & mirrors.

If they don’t offer early upgrades at regular (and reasonable) prices like they have for the last two iPhone launches I’m either selling my iphone4 and using that money to payout the ecf on the contract or buying unlocked and starting the countdown to leave Rogers.

Their retention plans used to be competitive in the market when they were the only GSM show in town and before the new players arrived but if I have to put up with garbage signal, I’d rather support one of the up-starts.

What is the point with “$50 Hardware Upgrade Rebate credit” to have the $209/$319/$419 charged instead of $159/$269/$369? Chances are Rogers will charge you $209 first (16GB example) and credit you $50 like 3 months later. In the mean time, the use that money to start their Bank.

Also, here is one thing I learn after talking to a level 2 rep at Rogers. I had two lines under my name.
One ‘started/new activation’ at Sept 2009 and one ‘renewed/hardware upgrade’ at Sept 2009. Both with a 3 yr agreement.

The one that started back in Sept 2009 is eligible for hardware upgrade with no Early Upgrade Fee but the one upgraded back in Sept 2009 has a $90 Early Upgrade Fee.

+$35 admin fee is really a ripoff.

I don’t have data plan so lets say I get the 16GB, it will be $209 – $50 + $90 EUF + $100 Data ECF + $35 admin fee + HST = $433.92 for a locked 4S on 3 year term. vs. $733.37 at Apple store….

I checked & found I have to pay a $45 early upgrade fee. I’d wait until December, but my brand new 3GS replacement has a smashed screen. At least it is just a one-time fee.

Anyway, I reserved a 32gig on Friday, so I’d probably lose that if I now cancelled it.

Looking forward to the 4S ?

Before everyone starts talking out of their ass, the prices are $50 more than a new activation because you get a $50 mail in rebate. Also The early upgrade is $20 a month x remaining months until you can do a upgrade. Bitching about that is just retarded. If you signed up for a iPhone 4 just last year do you expect Rogers to just give you another one this year for the same discounted price. Go ask bell what their early upgrade fee is.

Bell’s early HUP is the same price. They also only allow a HUP at 30 months. Complaints don’t help because Rogers and Bell own the CRTC and pay them lots on money to re-enforce their plans (just look at UBB, throttling and Wireless licenses).

Once again Rogers makes it a ‘pain in the butt’ to upgrade your iPhone.  Upgrading locks us in for another three years.  Why charge us more.  If this upgrade policy holds, looks like I will have to purchase  unlocked from Apple.   Which is probably what I should be doing anyways.

BS! If I have to purchase the phone outright I will get it directly from apple and I’ll be leaving to one of rogers competitors. I’ve dealt with a lot of crap from rogers and the only reason I put up with it and stayed with them was because of their lax upgrade policy for early iPhone adopters. I got the 3g right when it came out and they allowed me to upgrade to the 3gs right when it came out. Same story with 3gs to iPhone 4. If they ax this policy they will ax me as a customer.

Robbers!! And Im not only talking about Rogers, Im talking about all of the wireless companies in Canada.  Just a few miles down south you can upgrade your phone every year. In Canada they changed it to 24 months now they changed it again to 30 months!!! All of these companies love stealing from us. Why not allow us customers to upgrade to any phone we want with 1 year? More people will buy meaning more and more money for them, money is what they like. Let’s create a petition online or a Facebook Page to show our discomfort with them.

I did the math on my own for how much rogers has made off of me upgrading my iPhone every year in service charges – upgrade fees and the remaining cost on the phone and rogers made approx $5000 in profit off of my family…. The upgrade fee is absurd. We are paying more pretty much what the iPhone 4 cost originally for Rogers to recoup subsidy. So the 14 months of over $200 a month that I have paid so far equates to $0 in subsidy payoff. Here I was a proponent of Rogers and convinced family and friends to switch due to their better upgrade options not any longer. I will buy unlocked and start my move away from Rogers. Rogers coverage in the areas I travel is spotty but stayed due to upgrade options. Now Telus or Bell are looking so much better.

Its a complete cash grab.  It goes like this:

Rogers:  Everyone is selling the 16gb iphone 4s for $159 so we must do the same.

Us:  Sweet! that means we get the phone for $109 because Rogers has a $50 rebate on renewal of plans.

Rogers Manager #1:  Oh no.  Because of our rebate, our customers are going to get the phone for $109.  I know, let’s artificially inflate the price of the iphone to $209, that way when they get the rebate applied, they pay $159.  This way, we get to save $50 on each iphone we sell which would make us millions of dollars.

Rogers Manager #2: lol, that’s a great idea.  i got another.  Let’s make a policy that the $50 rebate does not apply to plans received through retentions.  Most iphone users have retention plans and therefore the rebate won’t apply.  We’ll be able to make another $50 off each customer.

Rogers CEO:  those are fantastic ideas!  With all the money we make we can buy another sports team.

Sadly, it’ll require proof of address 99.99% of the time.

I already reserve an iphone with rogers and it looks like I could get it on launch day.  I don’t want to line up at the apple store – in the COLD. 🙁

how early do you guys think i’d have to line up at a BC apple store to get a white 32 gb? oh and im going to do a early hardware upgrade through rogers. the apple store rep said that i don’t have to pay anything in-store and that its all charged to my next invoice?

can some please confirm this?

Correct. That’s the main reason I am purchasing from Rogers. If I put it on my credit card, and buy from Apple, I’d have to pay interest, and end up paying way more than I would from Rogers.

No, everything for the phone upgrade gets charged to your Rogers bill. Unless you get a case or AppleCare, you don’t pay inatore

All I want it an iPhone 4s 32gb white.

I have upgraded every year since the 2g (I got my first Canadian 3G iPhone as a new contract customer)

This year it changes!

$319.00 (iPhone) + $340.00 HUP + 35 HUP Admin Fee

Well I’ll just keep my phone and run my contract out. I will then, leave Rogers and not return as a customer. I will also tell everyone Rogers are price cheating Fu€kers

Terrible, I don’t see how Rogers is going to keep Apple early adopters … it’s not like there’s not any other options. I have to pay $400 extra to upgrade? I’m not even sure if I should buy unlocked or cancel my account.

I am cancelling and switching to Bell, they have a better coverage and better plans for sure!

I don’t understand why Rogers is allowed to charge $360.00 on top of the $205.00 when I bought a iPhone 4S for my son last September 2010.  I thought the hardware upgrade was 24 months when I renewed a family plan to get him the phone last year?  I am getting so sick of these carriers.  I was told Bell had an exchange program that you can change your phone every year for a fee.  Just turn in your phone and get a new one.

Anyone know if Rogers can change their HUP policy back and forth.

Carriers lock you in for 30 months before you can change hardware.  I have a 3G myself because I wanted to wait for something good but my 3G is so slow and crashes all the time.  It is ridiculous if you want the newest technology.  Anyone have any tips as I am so sick of Rogers!!!!

Can I get a SKYPE number or something to get away from these bloodsucking carriers????

How likely are you to get a new iPhone 4S if you line up outside the apple store on october 14, 2011? & to Anyone that lined up last year for the iPhone 4, was there a long wait if you were doing the hardware upgrade and did they have sufficient stock? also how early did you line up?

If you go to an Apple Store, you’re basically guaranteed a device. But it really depends on which store you go to to assess how busy it’ll get.
They always have plenty of stock and it doesn’t hurt to show up early.

I cancelled my reservation. I have always gotten the iPhone each year and this year Rogers wants $785 for the 64 GB phone. for $100 more I can buy it outright.

I decided if I am going to have to pay $320 to either get the phone or break my contract, I am going to move ALL my serviced and Rogers will lose $4900 annually.

The new policy is a money grab because they realize there is an aftermarket value for the iPhone.

Shame on them.

Mine showed $369… I’m on an EPP… does this mean I’ll get $50 on top of that? Since it was never $419 for me?
