LostWinds 2: Winter Of The Melodias [Review]
LostWinds 2: Winter of the Melodias by Frontier Developments Ltd, is one of the most beautiful and elegant games I’ve seen on the App Store.
You play as Toku, and your goal is to find and save your mother. At the same time, you’re trying to find out what happened to the Melodia people of Mistralis. As you progress, you unlock new abilities (and the cutest winter coat), such as the ability to create a cyclone to lift you higher or suck up water to make rain clouds. New abilities help you solve puzzles, and reach previously inaccessible areas.
The ability to switch between winter and summer is the most interesting of the abilities you unlock. Changing seasons will dramatically affect how an area looks and plays. Also, some puzzles can only be solved by switching between seasons.
I both loved and hated the wind mechanic. I found swiping to make wind was a fun and intuitive way to move Toku; when I wasn’t tapping where I wanted him to go. However, lifting or throwing objects this way didn’t always work. It took me a long time to lift one rock up four platforms, because I couldn’t make it go where I wanted it to. Thankfully, I only had trouble once – other times I was moving or throwing objects mostly horizontally, which was a breeze in comparison.
The art style, music, story and gameplay make LostWinds 2 an enjoyable and interesting adventure. If you like playing Legend of Zelda games, you should definitely consider checking this game out.
LostWinds 2 debuted as last week’s App of the Week on the App Store. So try it out for free here while you still can. Then let us know what you think. And if you played the original LostWinds, let us know which one you enjoyed more.
