MapsOpener Sets Google Maps to Default Maps on iOS [Jailbreak]

For those running a tethered iOS 6.0 jailbreak on their iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4th gen, a new tweak has arrived in Cydia to allow you to set the latest Google Maps for iOS app as the default map app (it also works for those on iOS 5) for links.

MapsOpener is a free jailbreak tweak available in the BigBoss repo that will open map links in Google Maps instead of Apple Maps. The tweak is from HASHBANG Productions.

Check out the demo of how it works below, as shown by Jeff Benjamin from iDownloadBlog:

why not just have the option of choosing what maps app to use… as a side note, i finally used Apple Maps for the first time last night and got lost within a 2 block radius. I loaded up Google Maps and it worked inconceivably better.

Maybe some areas are worse than others but I’ve had no issues at all in Niagara Falls, ON. I’ve used it quite a bit since the release. In my opinion visually it’s not as good as google maps and it doesn’t have some features but in my experience the data is just as good.

Doesn’t work in iOS 5.1.1 JB for contacts. It opens Google Maps with current location only, not with the contact address.

Yeah sounds like it doesn’t do contact addresses, but on twitter they said an update was coming.

Could be Because 5.1.1 already has google maps and this tweak is for those who updated to iOS 6 and up.
