Concept Dreams Up ‘iPhone 6’ and ‘iPhone Mini’ with Edge-to-Edge Display [VIDEO]
With Apple yet to release their next generation iPhone and iOS 7, designers have come up with creative concepts for both. The following concept dreamed up over at iPhone Malaysia (via iClarified) shows off what an iPhone 6 and iPhone Mini would look like with an edge-to-edge display.
The iPhone concept envisions an aluminum-carbon fiber unibody enclosure for lighter weight, a Lightning 2 port (MagSafe), iOS 8, no Home button (touch control bottom surface area), 2 x A7 processors, 4GB of RAM, 2800 mAh battery, along with 16GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB options, 4.5-inch display at 333 dpi, 8MP FaceTime camera, 20.2MP rear camera with 2K video sensor, and water-resistant coating. This is a concept on steroids and cocaine.

It would be very difficult to develop cases for this design
so lets say I accidentally drop one of those and it takes a hit on the edge- can I return it for a brand new handset when the screen is cracked in half?
I have Two problems: how do you hold it without causing interaction on the screen? And I do not like the loss of the physical button. You can’t accidentally click the button as it is. But, I’ve held android and windows phones with the touch buttons below and spent a lot of time accidentally activating them. I like the permanency of the clickable button.
Your first question has already been answered and applied with the iPad mini. The second is a min issue once you get used to the hardware. Duh.
Except that the iPad mini still has an edge. What we are seeing here is edgeless where the very last pixels are the bezel. This means any input in games or painting will become frustrating.
And it isn’t about the hardware and getting used it. I’ve been using a Microsoft surface as a test at work for about four weeks and I hit the touch sensitive windows key all the time when I am handing the device over to people. A physical button just makes more sense, because it means less accidental clicks, becuse it requires pressure.
If Apple held off changing the sync connector for over nine years, and did their best to minimize differences in screen resolution and size for the entire life of the iPhone, I really can’t see them changing all of that only a year later. Also, why is it running ‘iOS 8’, which apparently happens to look exactly the same as iOS 6? Did I miss something there?
As for the iOS 7 concept video, there are some good ideas there. The friend mode is pretty cool, would be great for handing to kids as well.
I love the idea of having a multi-user setup for an iPad. What would be even cooler is if it automatically logged in to the correct user account based on its read of the fingerprint used to swipe the lock slider. I don’t think you’d need to pinch out of the OS, either, you could just use the sleep/wake button (pinch would cause problems in most apps).
It’s also a little unclear what he means by the Siri song identification. Does he mean you don’t speak at all, and if Siri hears music instead of your voice, she could do song recognition? That could be a cool feature, if it worked properly. I’m guessing it would require a bit of an overhaul of Siri though and a lot of licensing deals for song recognition. Not that Apple couldn’t do it, but I have a feeling they’ll just leave that to SoundHound and Shazaam to handle, since they do a pretty good job.
