Rogers Launches $45, $55 ‘Smart Picks’ Plans to Match Telus and Bell

Amidst the noise of yesterday’s Rogers website and cell network outage, the company launched new $45 and $55 Smart Picks plans, a response “to match our competitor’s offers” we’re told, which in this case means the same plans from Telus and Bell.

The $45/month ‘Smart Picks’ plan includes:
– 150 Canada-Wide weekday minutes and 6pm Canada-Wide calling
– Unlimited weekends from Friday 6pm to Monday 7am
– Call Display & Voicemail
– 200MB wireless internet
– All Smart Picks plans are eligible to a 10% off BYOD Discount

The $55/month ‘Smart Picks’ plan includes:
– 1,000 Canada-Wide minutes and 6pm Canada-Wide calling
– Unlimited weekends from Friday 6pm to Monday 7am
– Unlimited Messaging (SMS, MMS & Video)
– Call Display & Voicemail
– 500MB wireless internet
– All Smart Picks plans are eligible to a 10% off BYOD Discount

Similar plans are available from Telus and Bell, as seen below. Notice data overages start at $15/400MB from Telus and $15/300MB from Bell, whereas with Rogers it’s $15/1GB. Data charges are the new voice minute overages.

These plans conveniently launched the same day Fido, Virgin and Koodo ended their double the data promo on their $40-$60 plans. Don’t you just love the wireless tango in Canada? Let us know if you’re going to jump on these plans.

Hmm, wondering when Rogers will fix the inability to access on line customer ac’s-down all last night + this morning but can now log in to a message of “there is no on line account associated with the number.”

these plans are only available with their “smart picks devices” which does not include iphones. and rogers “full details” is way too long and in way too small font for me to want to even sign up.

i think i’ll pass on rogers, as i always feel they want me to sign a 2yr+ term with them.

Who cares? I thought this website was IPHONEincanada, these plans aren’t available for iPhones.

Clearly, you’re misinformed.

These plans are available for unlocked iPhones. BYOD comes with a 10% off discount as stated.

Also, if you’ve been following our news coverage it has been more than just iPhone coverage, as clearly stated in our About page.

Actually this is one of the best parts of this site. I don’t know any others that constantly update promos. Also BYOD makes it relevant regardless.

I’ll be sticking with my $65 Student promo plan until November next year, that way I can negotiate a retention plan. These new plans now a days are just an insult to consumers. I’m paying $65/month for: My 10 canada wide, free calling after 6pm weekdays, unlimited weekends, unlimited picture/video/text msg’s, 6GB data with tethering, call waiting etc. The big 3 have the nerve to charge $75/month for 1GB of data???? I feel sorry for the people that upgraded to these dreadful plans just to get the iPhone 5s, being locked in with these plans for 2 years has got to suck.
