iPad Air, Retina iPad mini Supports 1700/2100MHz AWS Bands (WIND, Mobilicity)
Will the cellular iPad Air and Retina iPad mini work on WIND Mobile or Mobilicity? Looks like they both will, according to updates made on Apple’s website this morning.
The iPad Air ‘tech specs’ page now lists 1700/2100MHz AWS band support, which means cellular versions will work on networks such as WIND Mobile, Mobilicity, Eastlink, SaskTel and Videotron in Canada. The Retina iPad mini also has these same bands listed for its LTE cellular versions.
So if you plan on purchasing an LTE version of the iPad Air or Retina iPad mini, it will support the 1700/2100MHz AWS bands required for use with newer wireless entrants such as WIND Mobile, Mobilicity, Eastlink, SaskTel and Videotron.
Apple looks to be using a similar LTE modem found in the iPhone 5s and 5c, which also supports 1700/2100MHz AWS bands out of the box.
The company earlier this year first introduced AWS support when T-Mobile announced it would be carrying the iPhone 5 in March. Production units later on in the year all started to ship with AWS band support, first starting with warranty replacements, then eventually all new shipments going forward.
Anyone picking up a cellular version iPad Air or Retina iPad mini?
