TELUS T-UP! Upgrade Program Has Expanded to All iPhones [u]
Back in September Telus launched a new trade-in program called T-UP, known as the TELUS Upgrade Promise. It allowed iPhone 5s users on two year contracts to trade in their phone after 12 months and have their device balance eliminated, as long as they purchased AppleCare.
This meant they could then just upgrade to the newest device at its two-year term pricing and not have to deal with cancellation fees or hardware upgrade charges.
MobileSyrup reports today an internal TELUS memo states the program has become permanent and has expanded to all iPhones in the company’s line up, such as:
“any new iPhone available in the TELUS line-up including but not limited to: iPhone 5s 16GB, iPhone 5s 32GB, iPhone 5s 64GB, iPhone 5c 16GB, iPhone 5c 32GB, iPhone 4S 8GB, iPhone 5 32GB, iPhone 5 64GB. In any colour. Refurbished iPhones are not eligible.”
Back in September, Apple raised the price of AppleCare deductible pricing to $79 for incidents. The coverage program costs $99 for the iPhone, good for two years.
Anyone going to jump on this program for your next TELUS iPhone upgrade?
Update: TELUS just sent the following info regarding this program, which starts tomorrow:
Here’s how it works:
Customers activating or renewing a new iPhone with AppleCare+ have the option of adding the $9/month T-UP! feature to their account. After 12 months, the customer will be eligible to upgrade to a new device. All they have to do is return their current iPhone in good working order and purchase any new device on a two-year term and their existing device balance is waived!
Without T-UP! customers must pay off their device balance ($245 for an iPhone 5s) to upgrade after a year. However, when customers add the T-UP! feature to their account, they only pay $108 over a one year span, which means they save $142 overall. Check out this chart for the breakdown:
Currently T-UP! is available when customers purchase a new iPhone with AppleCare+; however, we are planning to expand this program to additional devices in the near future.
