Apple Reportedly Shelves 13-inch iPad Pro Plans [Digitimes]

Apple has reportedly “shelved” its plans for the 12.85-inch iPad Pro, according to a report from Digitimes. The larger tablet was slated to arrive sometime this year.

The move comes as large-sized tablet projects face difficulties, due to lack of support from related platform developers and ecosystems, the report claims, and points to the hurdles Android enterprise applications face: they are inferior to those on the desktop operating systems.

Rumours of the bigger “iPad Pro” started surfacing last year when the Wall Street Journal heard that Apple was developing a 13-inch tablet. A couple of months later, additional reports surfaced claiming that the company had already started testing the 12.9-inch iPad in Foxconn’s labs, while another report from the Korea Times said that a local display supplier had started production of the Retina Display of the bigger tablet.

It is as yet unclear exactly why Apple has “shelved” its plans for the 13-inch iPad Pro, or whether is has completely cancelled it. Since Apple is known for testing multiple units (sizes) of one device, and the iPad Pro does make sense, maybe the market isn’t ready for it.
