Forget about the bigger display iPhone 6 rumours that talk about Apple’s future plans to unveil a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch device: Apple is about to set a new iPhone sales record for the June quarter, according to Morgan Stanley’s Alphawise survey.

In a note sent to investors, Kathy Huberty of Morgan Stanley revealed the latest results of the AlphaWise Smartphone Tracker that scanned iPhone sales until the end of May. The result is positive, the copy sent to AppleInsider reads, because the demand for the iPhone remains strong, pushing sales toward the 39-million-unit mark for the June quarter. By comparison, Apple sold 32.1 million units during the same period a year prior and 26 million units two years ago.

You may recall that Morgan Stanley’s AlphaWise tracker was fairly close to reality in the past, so we can count it in as a decent indicator of iPhone sales Apple will report for the quarter that ends June 30.

Wall Street analysts appear to agree at an average 35 million iPhone units, but the Morgan Stanley survey shows a higher-than-expected demand. Also, the same survey shows that if Apple releases a bigger screen iPhone as rumoured, it likely will launch a strong upgrade wave.
