Tim Allen Awkwardly Touts BlackBerry Passport Over iPhone 6 on Jimmy Kimmel [VIDEO]

It seems like ages ago we were watching Home Improvement and Tim “the Toolman” Taylor strut his masculinity on the show. Actor Tim Allen was on Jimmy Kimmel last night and when asked if he had the new iPhone 6, he did something unexpected—he whipped out the new BlackBerry Passport for some camera time, taking his host by surprise.

Allen called the iPhone “wonderful” and “tremendous”, but said he likes “the weird stuff” referring to his new Passport, saying “it’s huge” and also “neat” as a “nifty Canadian” product. Was that supposed to be a glowing endorsement?

Youtube video

BlackBerry CEO John Chen proudly told investors at its recent earnings call 200,000 Passports were ordered shortly after its launch. Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus—which Blackberry mocked at their press event—sold over 10 million units in its launch weekend, while in China, over 2 million iPhone 6 models were sold on its opening day.

Is Tim Allen the highest profile celebrity BlackBerry can pull to tout their new smartphone on TV (aside from Wayne Gretzky at its press event)? If that’s the case, the company is in trouble.

He put the BB in his back pocket!!..ha.ha. I don’t think the serious BB users will be influenced by celebrity like Tim or Wayne…

I don’t think he ever was… I mean, his show was called tool time, and the only tool was him. Lols.

And we all know, Tim was never the sharpest tool in the shed.

Dumber than a bag of hammers if you ask me. Both him and his show.

I think you may be reading too much into his canada comment gary, hes on record being quite grateful for breaking out at just for laughs (also canada allowed him into the country despite his cocaine wrap sheet)

he seems to like the passport (agree thats weird) but he seems genuine by wanting to credit it as being canadian

Tim Allen didn’t “take his host by surprise”. They talk about what they’re going to discuss before they tape the segment. The reason he asked if he had the new iphone is because he knew knew he had the Blackberry and it could be used as a discussion piece. That and/or Tim Allen is endorsing it tacitly. Either way, Kimmel talked to him about it before hand.

Yes, we know that but Kimmel sure did a great job of pretending. Or maybe Kimmel was in on it too.

you can’t really take what Tim says seriously, he was a pretty serious coke head for a long time. his brain cells are all shot.

I happen to think Tim Allen is a great actor. His show ran for years, and his movies have done fairly well. Plus, despite his drug problems, he has reformed himself into a better human being than most “celebrities” are capable of today. He is one of the last few of a good generation.

BlackBerry Passport is an awesome phone. It’s different and Tim Allen happens to be creative. He as others who have tried it are impressed. It’s a shame that people have the need to judge without having any knowledge of the product. Try it first and then comment. This blackberry passport rocks. Yes, I have tried both the i6 and passport

I can’t believe this is an endorsement deal. Tim Allen has so much money it would change 0 things in his life or his kids’s life. I’m sure he, for some weird reason, actually likes the device.
