Christian Bale, known mostly for his roles as Batman and Moses (who he will play in his upcoming film “Exodus”), is about to take on another iconic role.

According to a report from Variety, Bale is in talks to play Steve Jobs in Sony’s upcoming biopic about Apple’s late CEO. The movie will be based on Walter Isaacson’s biography and will be directed by Danny Boyle and written by Aaron Sorkin.

Sorkin said that the movie will be divided into three main parts, each of which take place backstage before an iconic product announcement. In an interview Sorkin said:

“The first one being the Mac. The second one being NeXT, after he had left Apple. And the third one being the iPod. It’s a little like writing about the Beatles. There are so many people out there that know him and revere him.”

The first part will cover the introduction of the Macintosh, which Jobs famously debuted at an event on January 24, 1984. The second part of the movie is said to cover the period in time when Jobs left Apple and started NeXT.

The third part will cover the introduction of the original iPod, which was introduced by Jobs in 2001. The original iPod became the number one selling personal music player and along with the introduction of iTunes helped revolutionize the music industry.

“Insiders say Bale would likely shoot “Jobs” in the spring.”

The lead role was originally going to be played by Leonardo DiCaprio, who eventually decided to pass up the offer and take some time off from acting. DiCaprio withdrew from negotiations early this month. The biopic is set to begin filming next spring.

Exodus hasn’t been released let alone won an Oscar … Bale wasn’t even nominated for an Oscar for his role as Batman.

No problem

I thought David Fincher refused to direct it because he wanted Christian Bale as Jobs and they couldn’t get him. I’d personally rather see it as a Fincher film. 🙁
