WWDC 2015 Lottery Winners Begin Receiving Confirmation Emails

Demand for Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference has always exceeded the number of tickets available, so over the past few years Apple has held a lottery to determine which developers will win a chance to go to the conference. Apple is doing this in an effort to give everyone a fair chance at receiving a ticket.

This year, Apple accepted lottery entries from April 14 until April 17. Now that the lottery has ended, the company has started sending out emails to the developers who were selected. After receiving the confirmation, the developers are charged $1,599 for their ticket. Developers will know the status of their application by Monday, April 20, at 5 p.m. PDT.

Many developers, including Tapbot’s iOS developer and co-founder Paul Haddad, have shared their good fortune on Twitter after receiving order confirmations.

Apple has also revealed that it will offer up to 350 scholarships to students age 13 and older and members of organizations promoting science, technology, engineering and math education for young women, blacks and Latinos. This is the largest number of scholarships Apple has ever offered.

This year WWDC starts on June 8 and will run through June 12 at Moscone West in San Francisco. The event’s keynote will likely take place on June 8, which would probably be the same day as Apple presents its annual Design Awards. Over 1,000 Apple engineers will be on hand to host over 100 technical sessions and hands-on labs.

During the conference, Apple is expected to unveil iOS 9 and OS X 10.11. Rumours have also suggested that the company may also unveil a new television service, a new Apple TV set-top box, and a rebranded Beats streaming music service.

Developers who are unable to attend the event or who did not receive a ticket will be able to watch live streams of WWDC sessions that will cover a variety of topics, including iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, and other Apple products and services.
