U2 Dedicates Song to Apple Design Chief Jony Ive at Live Concert [VIDEO]

U2 is on tour across Canada and the U.S. and at its concert last night at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, frontman Bono dedicated a song to Apple design chief Jony Ive (via Justin Luey).

After pulling a fan on stage to “try something new”, the fan proceeds to take a selfie with Bono, with what appears to be an iPhone. That’s when Bono goes on to say:

“We love the people who make all this, we think they are very creative, very innovative, and we like people who take risks, so this goes out to Jony Ive”.

U2 then proceeds to sing the Sweetest Thing, originally from the B-side of their 1987 single Where the Streets Have No Name, but played with an electric guitar on stage.

Jony Ive, along with designer Marc Newson teamed up last year with Bono to help raise funds to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa, by releasing a line of limited edition products, auctioned off at the Sotheby’s (RED) charity auction. Apple’s (Product) RED contributions reached $70 million dollars last year.

Last year during the iPhone 6 launch, U2 surprised all Apple customers with a free download of their latest album Songs of Innocence, which unfortunately resulted in backlash as it was automatically sent to customer iOS devices over iTunes, with some Canadians even filing complaints to the CRTC over the forced download.

Bono appears to be healthy again after suffering a freak cycling accident in New York’s Central Park earlier this year, which resulted in numerous injuries, making the musician doubt whether he would ever play the guitar ever again.
