Viper StartSmart 4.0: Control Your Car with Apple Watch [VIDEO]

In case you would like to treat your car to a nice technology upgrade, Viper has launched SmartStart 4.0 for iOS. The app enables users to start, control, and locate their car from virtually anywhere, and now you can do it right from your wrist, thanks to the Apple Watch app.

The good thing is that Viper SmartStart works with virtually any after-market car; you just need to install a Viper system in your car. From that moment on, you can use the Apple Watch app to unlock doors or even start your engine with a voice command.

“Have your watch guide you to your car. Tap your wrist to unlock your doors. Say the word and your engine starts. Wearable technology has the potential to connect drivers to their cars like never before,” said Frank DeMartin, Senior Vice President of Product Development and Engineering for Viper. “Viper SmartStart 4.0 capitalizes on that potential and offers drivers unprecedented control of their vehicle, whether they’re using a smartwatch or smartphone.”

By visiting Viper’s website you can build your own Viper system. You’ll start off by selecting the car manufacturer, model, and year, then choose the system type (you can opt for remote start and security separately or combined), and you’ll have at least four types of Viper SmartStart systems to choose from.

By the way, you can build your custom Viper system online and choose to be contacted by an authorized local dealer, or you can go to the dealer yourself – just enter your zip code.

The Viper SmartStart system starts from $187.95, and you can buy it from Amazon. This certainly sounds like a nice upgrade for older cars. Download Viper SmartStart 4.0 for iOS.

Yeap…Got it installed on my Civic last year. Works on 3G.. At that time the interface was awful but they took a 180 degree turn and now it’s a wonderful piece of software… The Apple Watch glance and the main interfaces (watch and iOS) are very refined. You have to have the SmartStart installed and pay for the 3G connection (I took a 3 year contract for about 175CAN$) Rate of success trying to send commands to my car is about 2 out of 3 tries. The great thing is that distance doesn’t matter anymore: you could start your car, close the doors from QC even if you were parked in Vancouver (they do have 3G, right? ;o)… I’m also pretty sure it using Rogers network.

SmartStart 4.0 doesn’t work in Canada as they switched from AT&T to Verizon.
