Netflix Canada Price Jump: Now $9.99 for New Customers

If you were looking to sign up for Netflix Canada, the price increased today to start at $9.99 per month, an increase of $1 from its previous $8.99 monthly cost.

As for the reason of the increase? Netflix explained in a statement “To continue adding more TV shows and movies including many Netflix original titles, we are modestly raising the price for some new members in the U.S., Canada and Latin America.”

The basic plan is still available for new subscribers $7.99 per month, but it does not include HD and is limited to one stream at a time. The premium plan remains at $11.99, and allows four simultaneous streams per account, plus 4K content.

As for customers on the standard plan not already grandfathered into a lower monthly price will continue to pay $8.99 for another year, until October 2016. The price hike doesn’t come as a surprise, as Netflix disclosed last April the move was on the way for new subscribers.

According to the Canadian Press, Netflix would not disclose whether the standard plan was the most popular in Canada or not.

Earlier this month, Netflix updated their iOS app with support for in-app subscriptions. Want to save on your Netflix subscription with Apple?
