iPhone 7 Once Again Rumoured to be Water and Dustproof [Digitimes]

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will be waterproof and dustproof, according to supply chain sources cited by the Taiwanese Digitimes (via i4U, MacRumors). Also, Apple will allegedly redesign the home button and drop the physical button in favour of a touch sensitive one.

Possible iphone 7

The latter would allow Apple to make the iPhone’s front surface completely flush, a major change compared to previous models, which all included the iconic home button. This part of the report is rather interesting, since we’ve seen Apple investing in incorporating fingerprint sensors into the iPhone’s home button, so dropping it would be a major change compared to previous models.

As for the waterproofing and dustproofing, a waterproof iPhone is long overdue, and in fact there have been previous reports claiming the iPhone 7 will be waterproof. The iPhone 6s performs decently in water resistance tests, so it would be great to see a waterproof iPhone this year.

The rumour mill has been spilling information about the forthcoming iPhone, but there isn’t consistency regarding the flush home button. What seems to have been “confirmed” by various sources is that Apple is about to drop the 3.5 mm headphone jack in favour of the all-in-one Lightning port, leaving room for a stereo speaker system. There are rumours of wireless charging coming the iPhone and, possibly, a bigger battery.

Hopefully by removing the home button, they’ll be able to shrink the top and bottom bezels a bit more. iPhone remains on of the thickest I can recall.

Assuming the home button rumor is true of course.

That would mean smaller battery …

Maybe, maybe not.
The omission of the home button and headphone jack may allow them to squeeze a little extra battery bulk inside the newly open pockets. Perhaps the battery will be smaller, but the chips might be more power efficient.

Samsung, Sony, HTC are all marketing there phones with longer battery details. I feel Apple will likely keep existing usage results or find a way to better themselves to stick with the flow of others.

The other ones will always have better battery life if there’s no reason to use them like an iPhone ????

that’s another thing though. I use all the features, cloud, all location, I have not a single thing turned off and my phone lasts 2 days easily. I’ve been out since 6AM and now 4:47pm I have 76% battery left with doing emails and music all days. I really don’t know how people kills their iPhones so fast, my iPhone 6s Plus is amazing 😛

I know it all comes down to the user, but out of the 40+ phones I’ve had, this one is top the list for me personally.

I watch a lot of Jays games and Netflix on my phone when I’m putting my kids to bed so that really kills it!

Hah! I here you there buddy. I don’t really do the sports games, but my 4 year old son loves asking Siri what time it is, and asking 101 questions and asking to play “Banana Phone” lol

Not sure about anybody else but been using that assistive button on screen over the physical home button for awhile now and just noticed a few other people the other day while out doing the same.

Taking out the physical will finally allow that full edge to edge so this with the change to the headphone jack will be kind of good. If they also have an option for 256 then that will be a plus as well. Might not be that revolutionary design everyone seems to want but it is looking good.

NOW – stereo speakers?? Been saying this for awhile but what would be the point in having stereo speakers just on the end where the headphone & lightning are currently located.

The iPad pro would have just that side with speakers then.It makes little sense.
