Apple Said to Refresh MacBook Air, MacBook Pro Lineup [Rumour]

The new MacBook Air will be unveiled this month, but not available until August, claims Japanese blog Mac Otakara, citing a reliable Chinese supplier. In line with expectations, Apple will also present the new MacBook Pro, but the report doesn’t mention when the revamped computers will hit the shelves.

Corroborating an earlier rumour claiming that Apple will drop the 11-inch MacBook Air model, Mac Otakara says it has heard rumours the company will focus on the 13-inch and 15-inch models instead of on the 11-inch version.

The new portable computers will be equipped with USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 ports, dropping the USB-A, MagSafe 2 and Thunderbolt 2 ports.

Last year, the Taiwanese Economic Daily News put the redesigned 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air launch in the third quarter. Digitimes also heard that Apple will ship ultra-thin 13-inch and 15-inch MacBooks by the end of June.

The new MacBooks will allegedly retain the same design as the existing 12-inch MacBook, but will be thinner than the existing MacBook Air, Digitimes sources claimed earlier in March.

As for the MacBook Pro, rumours claim it will be much thinner and lighter, and will incorporate Touch ID and an OLED touch bar.
