Google Launches Video Calling App Duo for iOS

Google yesterday launched a FaceTime-like video calling app called Duo for both iOS and Android. The app lets users initiate one-on-one video calls with anyone who has Duo; all they need is the contact’s phone number.

Duo PR

While the app seems to be pretty basic – as Google puts it: “simple and human” user interface – a notable feature is Knock Knock, which lets users see a live video of the caller before answering the call.

According to Google, Duo automatically adjusts the video resolution depending on your Internet connection speed. When bandwidth is limited, Duo will reduce the resolution to keep the call going smoothly. Also, Duo calls are end-to-end encrypted, due to Google’s emphasis on privacy and security.

As noted by The Next Web, Duo doesn’t connect to other Google communication apps as Hangout does. Since Duo is entering a very crowded market with tons of popular video calling apps including Skype and Facebook Messenger, Google has to provide a great user experience to win over users.

Duo has already launched in the US, and Google promises to make it available worldwide within the next few days. Download Duo from the App Store for free! [USA only, at least for now]

Maybe I’ll switch if Duo is better and smooth and pleasant to use as FaceTime. I love iphone for various reasons but 2 strongest are iMessages and FaceTime. No app on Android even on par ,let alone beat them.
