Apple Acquires Machine Learning Company Tuplejump
Apple has acquired another machine learning company, this time the US/India-based Tuplejump, reports TechCrunch.
Although Apple didn’t confirm it with a firm yes, when contacted by TechCrunch this morning regarding Tuplejump, the company replied with the statement they use when acquiring a company:
Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.
Although the Tuplejump website was taken offline following the acquisition, a Wayback Machine capture reveals that the company has built a solution that makes “big-data” handling easier via their simplified data management technology.
Since neither Apple nor Tuplejump have issued a statement, the terms of the deal remain under wraps, but TechCrunch has learned that Apple was interested in “FiloDB”, an open-source project Tuplejump was building that applies machine learning concepts and analytics to huge amounts of data.
In August Apple acquired another machine learning startup, the Seattle-based Turi, for $200 million, and at the end of last month posted job listings for its new machine learning division.
