macOS 10.12.1 Leaks New MacBook Pro ‘Magic Toolbar’ via Apple Pay Images [PICS]

As unearthed by a MacRumors reader, macOS 10.12.1 has just leaked images of Apple’s upcoming MacBook Pro, and confirmed its rumoured OLED touch bar, dubbed Magic Toolbar. Earlier today, another discovery seemingly suggested the OLED touch bar was coming, but the following evidence confirms it’s real.

The images show a contextual OLED touch panel above the number keys, which also supports Touch ID in the top right corner to authenticate Apple Pay purchases. The product image below, found in macOS 10.12.1, shows an Apple image of the process:

The MacBook depicted above looks very thin, sports butterfly mechanism keys from the 12-inch Retina MacBook it appears, plus has speakers flush along the sides.

Another close-up image shows more detail on the ‘Magic Toolbar’, which looks pretty slick, integrated above the number keys:

Update: You can see these files yourself at /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/PassKitUI.framework/Resources/ on your Mac, running macOS 10.12.1 (via Six Colors).

Here’s another image, which we found in the folder–and gives a better look at the Touch ID sensor (is it a physical button too with haptic feedback?):

Apple will hold its “hello again” Mac event on Thursday, October 27, at its Cupertino headquarters. The live streamed event will kick off at 10AM PDT/1PM EDT.

Would be pretty interesting if this is true: ARM chip on board as well?

An A-series CPU alone on a pro model would be unacceptable, but having *both* and ARM and an Intel CPU would be perfectly fine, and a possibility I hadn’t considered before.

I’ve been waiting to upgrade for so long, but I have to say, that image makes me very nervous of the keyboard. Not 100% able to tell from the photos, but it sure does look like practically no depth to the keys.

The key travel of the butterfly mechanism on the 12″ MB is horrific. It’ll be a deal breaker for me if the keyboard has the same travel as the MB. I’m hoping they’ll take advantage of the larger chassis with more natural keys.

I’m hoping I can get one for work, but only for the updated internals.

The whole touch strip just has no use to me. Keys have always been contextual, and I generally operate by muscle memory. Looking down at a tactile-less strip to see what my options are feels like a step back.

I mean it’ll probably be fine, but I’m just past the point of being wowed by yet-another-screen-to-look-at ™
