With the release of iOS 10.3.2 on Monday, Rogers issued a carrier update, version 28.4. This added support for VoLTE (voice over LTE) for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users, iPhone in Canada readers have informed us.
As you can see from the screenshot below, model NG4W2LL/A (iPhone 6) on the Rogers network with the 28.4 carrier update shows LTE in the status bar while on an active call. Previously, calls would be routed through the Rogers 3G network:

How to find out if you can support VoLTE right now? According to Apple, “go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Enable LTE. If Voice & Data is off, tap it to turn on VoLTE.”
VoLTE support means users can now use LTE for both data and voice simultaneously, while it also supports wide band audio for better clarity, while also allowing for faster call connections.
Rogers first launched VoLTE in 2015, with support only for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus coming later in the same year. Bell launched VoLTE for iPhone last September, while Telus introduced VoLTE last spring and expanded coverage to Ontario last month.

Ahh… this isn’t anything new. iPhone 6 and 6 plus on Rogers has been Volte enabled since at least October 2016.
Yup this is not new at all.
What would be new is if they added support for soft handoffs for the the 6 (and maybe the 6s) that would allow a call to continue without dropping when transitioning from wifi to cell. Dropped callable were such a PITA when moving around that I disabled volte with fido.
You’re having handoff issues? I can be on a wifi call and turn off wifi and the call continues on Volte no issues.
I did on with my 6 on fido. Switched to a 7 but I also switched to PM so I can’t say if they ever fixed it for the 6.
I tend to go for walks when I’m on some conf calls at work and as soon as I’d leave wifi the call would drop, so I had to be sure volte was disabled before getting on calls and eventually just disabled it all together. Sometimes I would enable it at home where Fido’s call coverage was very poor.
Then 6 and 6plus are capable of Vowifi to Volte handoffs. Did you ever reset network settings? Ever troubleshoot with rogers/fido? Ever swap sim cards? It certainly shouldn’t of been having the issues you stated.
Never swapped SIMs but tried resetting network. Fido support said it was only enabled on newer iphones but can’t recall which at the time.
If you have call drops maybe you are not on a VoLTE call. I can switch between wi-fi calls and volte with no problems with my 6s+ on rogers.
According to Rogers forums, this hasn’t been the case for all iPhone 6 owners, and many readers are saying only this recent update enabled it for them.
Everyone I know who’s on rogers / Fido with a 6 or 6+ Volte was default enabled since October with the update that made it work (can’t remember what update specifically ).
I hear what you’re saying, but as of March, people were still complaining that it wasn’t enabled yet for calls on the Rogers forums.

I’m surprised that you do, as according to Apple, 5s doesn’t not support VoLTE.

You’re right when I made a call it switch back to 3G.
I never use WIFI calling. It drops calls all the time.
FragilityG4, this is the pre-VoLTE screen, so you don’t have VoLTE on your iPhone 5S. The three menu options you should see instead under ‘Enable LTE’, if VoLTE is available, are: ‘Off’, ‘Voice & Data’ and ‘Data Only’. The ‘Voice & Data’ must be checked to activate VoLTE.

You mean you have wifi calling enabled on the 5s. Volte isn’t possible on the 5s.
Thank you, Gary, for posting this. I am (one of) the person(s) who submitted the news to iPhone in Canada about Rogers 28.4 activating VoLTE on iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. It works very well on my phone now and transitions from VoLTE to VoWiFi are working seamlessly. Before, switching from VoWiFi to the cellular network would always drop the call, which was terribly annoying every time when I had to leave from home and on a call, and made me turn off VoWiFi. The good thing is that VoLTE is activated by default and have not had to do anything to turn it on.
The nice thing on both VoLTE and VoWiFi is that, when dialling out, the call is connected right away, so there’s no more dead time for the complex cellular authentication processes to complete.

You’re probably one of ‘these people’ who never updated before or on a business corporate plan. I can confirm anyone on rogers and Fido past ios 9.1 came with carrier update 22.1 which enabled Volte by default after installed. UNLESS you had some kind of corporate or gov plan.
Maybe they just didn’t know how to activate it. There’s a difference 😛
‘Those people’ are probably slow adopters to updating and only noticing this now. Probably the type of people who refrain from updating because they don’t know how lol or just don’t care. Hahahah
I can confirm that I am now getting LTE when I am on a phone call (Fido). I did notice that before when I made a call it would downgrade to 3G, so I would use Facetime Audio when I could.

Looks like you’re in a low signal area. You’d notice a great improvement if you enabled wifi calling/texting. Settings, phone, enable wifi.

Hi Don. The wifi symbol doesn’t mean your phone is connected to wifi calling. You have to enable it under settings, phone, wifi calling. Once connected to wifi calling it will show the wifi symbol and say ‘wi-fi’ next to it. For example ROGERS wi-fi , or TELUS wi-fi, or Fido wi-fi. Ect Here is the link about what I mean maybe it will explain better. Hope this helps!

The update of 28.4 dropped the signal and is unstable on iPhone 7 I had to restore with 28.2 ???? And as of VOLTE my Wife has it on her 6 since 28.2????
It’s called restart the phone and or network settings. No need to downgrade.

I’m on Fido. It stays on LTE when I make a call. I’m running iOS 10.2.1 (14D27)/fido 27.1

Maybe they rolled out VoLTE for iPhone 6 because I can confirm that my dad iPhone 6 the calls switched back to 3G on iOS 10.3.1 even if he had the voice and data option n checked. I update his phone this morning and boom, VoLTE worked on the first call attempt.
