Retail Data Shows iPhone 8 Being Upstaged by the More Expensive iPhone X

According to the latest mobile phone retailers data from Ipsos Retail Performance, a firm that monitors high street footfall, the iPhone 8 saw one of the weakest Apple launches ever, with crowds at mobile operators’ stores increasing by just 10.2% month-on-month in the two weeks after the iPhone 8 hit the shops.

Meanwhile, the data has also confirmed that the iPhone 8, which is believed to be the second-weakest iPhone launch in the last eight years, is being upstaged by its more expensive sibling, the iPhone X (via The Telegraph). Ipsos is predicting an unusually-high level of demand for the iPhone X, with footfall in the two weeks following the launch set to be up 25% month-on-month, the third biggest rise on record.

Last year’s iPhone 7 resulted in an 18.8pc rise, while the iPhone 6 in 2014 led to a 39pc increase in footfall. If Ipsos’ predictions of a bumper iPhone X launch are accurate, it will prove to be the busiest release apart from the 6.

“Despite being just six weeks after the launch of the iPhone 8 in stores, we expect the X to attract crowds not seen since the arrival of the iPhone 6, four years ago,” Ipsos’ Tim Denison said.

It must be noted that Ipsos’ data, taken from electronic trackers installed at the entrances of mobile networks’ stores, does not include Apple’s own retail footprint, online sales or dedicated electronics shops.

Apple will provide the first official indication of iPhone 8 sales later today when it reports results for the three months to the end of September.

Interesting the 6s had the worst numbers even though it’s arguably their best phone. It’s got the speed, design and even the Taptic engine of modern iPhones, while keeping the best of the old – a real physical home button and headphone jack. It’s so good Apple still sells them new even though it came out several generations ago.

I hated my iPhone 6s. the battery and otherboard had such issues it shut down at 20-30%, the battery would go down so fast and my phone would get hot. Much happier with my 8 Plus.

That sucks, but I think what you actually hated was Apple’s battery quality control. My 6s is still going strong with no battery issues.

I wouldve liked Apple to acknowledge the issue bettr. We were many iPhone 6s owners to have issues with battery life, flooding up the forums and support pages. I was told my iphone was not part of the recall when clearly I could see that my iphone battery was not behaving properly. It was either the battery of the chip working too strong, in thinking the latter. It’s like when ai was playing games or filming my iphone would get abnormally hot and battery would go down 1-2% per minute (not kidding). Then I would restart it at like 10 more percent it had when I shut it off, and it would go down fast again.

Yeah lots of people talk about amazing Apple customer support, but most of the time it’s not great. When my iPhone 6 screen stopped responding to touch, they still made me pay for a replacement phone – even though they admit it was due to a design flaw where the phone is easily bent and the chips inside lose connection as a result. This never happened with any of their other phones (except the 6 plus of course) and I treated my phone well – yet they made me pay. I think their secret is that they randomly give someone a new MacBook or whatever and let them trumpet how great Apple is, but for most of us, this is the service we get,

I experience similar battery and overheating issues with my iPhone 6s. Fortunately, I was able to get a new battery replacement because it was part of the recall. However, I wonder if it’s because it is the Samsung chip causing the overheating which seems to substantially shorten battery life. Anyone else remember chip gate?

Mine was mysteriously out of the recall… I think I got them to change my battery but the problem did not stop so i’m thinking it was more of a CPU/motherboard overperforming or something like that… I was getting 5hours with my 6S and now having 12-13 with my 8 plus… night and day.

The wife got a brand new 6s recently because it was the last IPhone model to have a headphone jack.

Yeah, me too. I could have bought a 7, but I chose the 6s. Never regretted it.
