According to a new report from China Times, which is in line with reports from KGI, Apple is planning to release a total of 3 iPhone models this year.
The new models will include 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch variants with OLED displays, and a 6.1-inch version that has an LCD display. While all of the current display manufacturing for the iPhone X is done by Samsung, the report notes that the 6.1-inch LCD “thin-film” display will be manufactured by JDI.
The report also notes that the 6.1-inch iPhone will be sporting an 18:9 aspect ratio. This is a rumour that we should take with a grain of salt as the company’s current iPhone X has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Adding another aspect ratio to the lineup would make developers lives more challenging, as well as add fragmentation to iOS.
Due to the complexity of Apple’s 3D Touch technology, it is believed that the price of the LCD display will also go up, therefore making the device’s price higher than expected. The current projection for the price of the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone is between $700 and $800.
