Tinder Allows iOS Users to Add Two-Second GIF-Like ‘Loops’ to Their Profiles

Popular dating app Tinder is today rolling out a new feature that enables users to add a two-second looping video to their profiles.

According to a new blog post from the company, the new feature, called Tinder Loops and first announced in April, enables enabled users to share parts of their personality with short two-second videos which can be trimmed from a longer pre-existing video stored on their phone.

The app’s first video-based feature was tested in Canada, Sweden, and Japan in April. Today, Loops launches to iOS users in an additional 23 markets across the Americas, Western Europe, Asia, and the Middle East — including the U.S., U.K., France, Australia, Germany, South Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Italy.

“Loops brought profiles in Canada, Sweden and Japan to life over the past few months and we are delighted to make the feature available to more Tinder users around the world,” said Brian Norgard, Chief Product Officer at Tinder. “We created Loops so that users can highlight their personalities in a more dynamic, fun way — and we’ve already seen an increase in the number of matches during the test, as well as longer conversations.”

Tinder says that profiles with looping videos “increased your average conversation length with a match by more than 20 percent,” and in Japan, where it launched in June, Tinder profiles with loops garnered 10 percent more right-swipes on average compared to those without loops.

According to Tinder’s blog post, it’s quite easy to upload your own loop to your Tinder profile. All you have to do is tap the “Add media” button, select your video and drag the time strip to select your desired loop, preview the loop, then click “Add to profile.”

For now, Tinder Loops will only be available to iOS users but, as with all similar updates, it will eventually be made available on Android too.

This is the first time the perennially popular dating app has enabled moving images on its platform. In addition to the new Loop feature, Tinder is increasing the number of photo and Loops slots from six to nine.
