What’s New in iOS 12.2 Beta [VIDEO]

Apple unleashed the first beta of iOS 12.2 on Thursday for developers and the release has not disappointed so far with new features.

For starters, the release contains Apple News for Canada, which is set to launch next week with five publications in English and French.

iOS 12.2 beta also contains a “Hey Siri” setup screen for rumoured AirPods 2, while it also includes imagery for Apple News Magazines, suggesting a magazine subscription option is coming.

Apple also issued a bunch of smaller tweaks in iOS 12.2 beta, which you can see in the video below from EverythingApplePro, listing over 30 changes in the release.

Below are just some of the changes in iOS 12.2 beta:


  • Control Center: AirPlay screen mirroring has new icon
  • Control Center: menus have become larger slightly
  • Control Center: New icon for AirPlay (darker shade of blue)
  • Control Center: AirPlane Mode no longer gives animation signal bar
  • Apple TV Remote: now full screen interface; support for AirPlay 2 TVs (ability to turn on/off)
  • Apple Music: searching for songs shows larger, less condensed results
  • Siri: Asking Siri to play music now comes with a built-in controller
  • Wallet: Add icon now solid black; new animations when selecting cards; recent transactions appear below cards with richer detail
  • Apple Maps: new toggle to show Air Quality Index
  • TV app: new category for Films
  • Safari: search results have icon to indicate ready to search
  • Safari: now shows “Not Secure” for applicable websites

As for iOS 12.2 beta, it’s a 3GB install which takes up an extra gigabyte of storage. Geekbench results show a slight dip, but that is expected to improve by the final release.
