After slashing prices for its Model 3, Model S and Model X in Canada and the USA, Tesla has announced existing buyers who made purchases prior to yesterdays discounts can get Autopilot or Full Self-Driving upgrades for 50% off.
As Tesla writes on the company blog:
All customers who bought a Tesla before yesterday’s price decrease will be able to buy the Autopilot or Full Self-Driving capability for half of what those features would normally cost after initial purchase.
Here are the new upgrade prices in U.S. dollars for existing customers as noted by Tesla:
In Canada, Autopilot is a $4,000 upgrade ($5,300 CAD after delivery) and Full Self-Driving Capability is an extra $6,600 CAD on top at the time of purchase. The complete system is more expensive at $14,500 if added after delivery ($5300 Autopilot + $9200 Full Self-Driving).
Tesla explains, “for a customer who previously hadn’t purchased Autopilot plus Full Self-Driving, they will soon be able to do so for $6,000 [USD] less than before.”
As for those customers who previously bought Full Self-Driving at full price, they will “receive an invitation to Tesla’s Early Access Program (EAP),” which is essentially early access to beta features.
How to upgrade your Tesla to Autopilot or Full Self-Driving capability? Tesla says you “will be able to do so with a one-click payment” starting next month, adding “there will be no need to call anyone, and it will be as easy as it was to order your car in the first place.”
